How do you tell how many new cards you did on Anki? ›

Hovering the mouse over a specific item allows you to view the number of revisions made that day. Click on a day of the week to make that the starting day. This graph counts the number of card reviews you have done.

For the New Cards, I recommend these settings: The Learning steps setting is set to 10m 1d 3d. This means that pressing Again shows the card in 10 minutes and pressing Good would show the card after 1 day, then after you press “Good” on that, you'll see it again after 3 days.

Show cards that you have recently added, without converting them to review cards as they are answered.

(If you want to unbury cards before then, you can click the “unbury” button on the deck overview screen.) This is useful if you cannot answer the card at the moment or you want to come back to it another time. Burying can also happen automatically for cards of the same note.

By default, Anki will show you a maximum of 20 new cards each day. The reason for this limit is because those cards will need to be reviewed in the coming days - such as the next day, and then a few days after, and so on.

It's easy to make 100+ Anki cards in a day. The problems with making lots of Anki cards is: They're usually not very good. Your day will be filled with Anki and nothing else (like QBanks)

This depends on the person, goals and material, but I don't think you should spend 2 hours a day on Anki for language learning. 10-15 minutes a days sounds pretty reasonable to me, more can be overwhelming and contribute to perceiving it as a chore.

I recommend finding a number of new cards/day that is as high as possible that you can maintain for a month or so. After that, before you burn out, drop it down to 20-30 new cards per day and shift your main focus to immersion.

To further make the cards random, go to the Options menu: Next, select “Show New Cards in Random Order” to make the cards show up in a random order.

Why does Anki keep giving me the same cards? ›

For your first issue, you likely have 'deck override' turned on. Cards are being placed in the "Default" deck - Frequently Asked Questions. For your other issue, if you're reaching your review limit for that deck, Anki will stop introducing new cards until you manage to clear the backlog.

To remove the empty cards, go to Tools → Empty Cards in the main window. You will be shown a list of empty cards and be given the option to delete them.

Siblings and Bury ing

When you answer a card that has siblings, Anki can prevent the card's siblings from being shown in the same session by automatically ' bury ing' them.

Look for the daily limits section - you'll find the "new cards/day" and "maximum reviews/day" preset. Update them based on how many cards you wanna tackle each day.
