The average physician in the United States earns $350,000 per year, with a good number earning many times that.
The figures come from a team of economists who analyzed more than 10 million tax records from 965,000 physicians over the course of 13 years, according to The Washington Post.
During the prime earning years of age 40 to 45, the average physician earned $405,000 in 2017, with virtually all of it coming from actual pay as opposed to business-related or other outside income available to physicians. The top ten percent of physician earners averaged $1.3 million, and the top one percent averaged $4 million, although the vast majority of their incomes came from business income or capital gains, according to The Washington Post.
