The fourth volume is more serious in content and style than the first three. The series continues to stand out for compassion and diversity. In this volume, a character is courageous in facing and getting help for his mental health, including an eating disorder.
Alice Oseman's Heartstopper, Volume 5 is the fifth and penultimate installment in the graphic novel series that has taken the Internet by storm over the past few years, especially after its television adaptation was released on Netflix in 2022.
In Heartstopper: Volume 5, the main emphasis is on Nick and Charlie's decision whether or not to take their physical relationship further. Sex is discussed a lot at school, among friends, and at home. The book deals with these discussions and decisions in a sensitive way.
Wholesome queer content for people of all ages to enjoy and potentially even learn some lessons in mutual respect. Be warned that the source material does get a little darker/more serious including themes regarding mental health (and so future seasons will likely include this).
Charlie and Nick refer to having sex regularly. There's a sex scene in which they undress each other and use a condom. There's an illustration of them shirtless lying in bed together. They take a "post-sex candid" selfie.
At Harry's party, Aled tells him how Tao and Elle have broken up. Charlie becomes very drunk and breaks up with Nick because he thinks Nick doesn't really want to be with him. They don't talk for two weeks. Tori finds Nick's camera and Charlie realises most of the pictures are of him.
No release date has been announced yet for Volume 6, but it will most likely come out sometime in 2024. While you eagerly await Season 3 (and the final chapters), here's our guide to catching up on the five Heartstopper novels, and how to read them in order.
“Summer is on its way and Charlie has been working really hard on his mental health and he is starting to find an inner confidence: who he is, what he wants, what he wants to do with his life, while Nick is having a little bit of a crisis about where he's going to go to university because he'll have to make his ...
I love …” Nick says to Charlie, his words fading into an unfinished sentence. Moments later, Charlie has to leave, but as he walks home with his phone in hand, he types a message to Nick: “I love you.”
