Why is eBay charging me when I haven't sold anything? ›

You had a Reserve Price on that listing. There is a 7.5% charge on the reserve price (or $5 whichever is more) which is charged when the listing is submitted regardless of the item sells or not. That is what you were charged for.

Your bank might flag any unexpected activity on your account. This includes first-time orders and high-value purchases, regardless of the amount of funds available or your credit limit. Your bank might require your verbal authorization to proceed with a transaction.

If you do elect to upgrade your listings, those upgrade fees will be charged at time of listing, regardless of whether your item sells. Final value fees, meanwhile, are charged once your item sells. If your item doesn't sell, you will not be charged any final value fees.

The amount eBay makes on a sale depends on the final selling price of the item, the category of the item, and any additional fees that may apply. On average, eBay takes between 10% and 15.55% of the final selling price in fees. This percentage can increase if you're selling internationally or using promoted listings.

Amazon charges your payment method when an order is shipped. If you have successfully cancelled an order prior to it being shipped, an authorization might be visible on your bank account as a pending or processing charge for up to 5 business days. This is not a charge.

Purchase authorizations: When you place an order, we contact your bank for a purchase authorization. We do it to verify your card or checking account but don't actually charge you until the order ships. Some banks may hold funds in your account for these authorizations even if the order is canceled.

If you make offers on more than one item with the same seller each will be automatically charged to you with no option to ask for combined invoice to perhaps save on shipping. You will be paying the shipping on each one.

If your item doesn't sell you usually don't pay a final value fee. However, if you offer or reference your contact information to another user or ask a buyer for their contact information, in the context of buying or selling outside of eBay, we charge a final value fee for introducing you to the buyer.
