How do I add my AIB card to Google Pay? ›

1. Open the Google Pay app and tap the '+' sign. 2. Line up your AIB card within the frame on the screen to capture your card details automatically or enter these details manually.

Add a bank account with a debit card on Google Pay

Select your bank from the list. If you can't find your bank, it doesn't work with Google Pay. Select the account that you want to add from the list of accounts. To verify your account, add your debit card details such as the last 6 digits of card and the expiry date.

Google Wallet allows consumers to hold a wallet balance, send and receive money from friends in the United States, and use a plastic card in stores and online. Google Pay allows users to tap and pay in stores and use/redeem loyalty cards, gift cards, and offers in store.

There are many various reasons why your Google Pay does not work. The reasons may vary from simple ones, like an old app version, an expired or invalid card, lack of NFC support or disabled NFC.

You must ensure that there are available funds in your account to cover the value of any debit card transaction or your transaction may be declined and you may incur additional charges. See our price list for more details of fees and charges that apply to the Visa debit card.

The reason for this could be that your bank does not have a partnership with Google Pay or that your debit card is not supported and will not work in this E-wallet. There might be bugs or technical issues restricting you from adding your debit card.

Q. Can I use Google Pay without a bank account? You don't need to link your bank account to use Google Pay—you can just add a debit or credit card, though that will only work to pay merchants directly. If you want to use the app to send or request money, you will need to link a bank account.

To make it hard for other people to use your account, you're asked to set a Google PIN when you get started with Google Pay. If you don't think your Google PIN is strong enough, you can change it. Make sure that you set a strong UPI PIN that only you know, and cannot be easily guessed.

In western regions like the US, other payment platforms like Apple's own Apple Pay are used more frequently. This is perhaps one of the reasons behind Google's latest decision to shut down its own Google Pay service in the US. As per the announcement, Google Pay will shut down in the US on June 4, 2024.

In an update to the mobile payment sector, Google has announced it will discontinue Google Pay in the US by June 2024, transitioning users to Google Wallet.

How safe is Google Pay from hackers? ›

Google Pay relies on encryption to secure payment data. It doesn't share your card details but provides a virtual account number, preventing data theft.

To make Google Pay more secure, you will require a Google PIN to use the app. You can also use your existing screen lock to secure Google Pay.

Google Pay is accepted instore, online and in app for unlimited payments wherever you see the contactless symbol or Google Pay logo. Google Pay has no limit on the number or value of in-store transactions.

Google Pay won't charge you a fee when you use your phone or other smart device to tap and pay, or to make a payment online. However, that doesn't necessarily mean your purchases will come with zero fees — as your own card issuer might have charges you need to take into consideration.

If you're unable to add a credit card to Google Pay, check your internet connection, ensure the card is supported, and verify that it's not expired. Clear the app cache, update the Google Pay app, and confirm your billing information matches.
