Google announced back in April that its Google One VPN would be discontinued later this year due to low usage. This week, the Google One app for Android and iOS has started notifying users that the VPN by Google One will be discontinued on June 20, 2024 (via 9to5Google). After that date, any new or existing VPN connections will be disconnected automatically.
The Google One VPN, which is available on desktop on mobile, has been available for free with all Google One subscriptions since last year. It was initially only available with a Google One Premium plan with 2TB of storage or higher.

While the Google One VPN is going away next month, Google will continue to offer a native VPN on select Pixel devices. The Pixel 8 and newer devices already offer a built-in VPN that’s fully integrated in the phone’s settings. In a support page, Google also announced that a system update coming on June 3, 2024 for the Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, and Fold will bring that same built-in VPN to these older Pixel devices.
If you’re in the US, Google will also continue to support the free VPN available for Google Fi customers. This VPN can be turned on an off in the Google Fi mobile app.
