What is the best custody schedule for high conflict? ›

The 4-3 plan can work well for co-parents in high-conflict relationships that share parenting time for school-aged children. This plan can limit communication between the parents because the parents don't have to interact to handle exchanges at school.

In a common long-distance schedule, the non-custodial parent has the child for one or two weekends per month. Or, you can have a week-long visit once every two or three months. The ideal schedule considers the child's age, the specific distance, co-parents' availability, and travel expenses.

In shared physical custody, both parents have an almost equal amount of time with the child. This arrangement can vary considerably based on the specific needs of the family and the child, but the objective is to allow the child to spend substantial time with both parents.

Majority/minority time-sharing schedules

The every extended weekend schedule is a 60/40 arrangement that has children spend weekdays with one parent and a long weekend with the other. The extended weekend typically begins when children finish school on Friday and ends when school starts on Monday.

50/50 Child Custody

Usually, this simply means alternating between parents at consistent intervals, two days long, a week-long, or two weeks long, depending on the specific needs and circ*mstances of the family. There's also a popular 50/50 schedule known as 2-2-5-5, which we'll discuss later.

70/30 Parenting Schedule
