Giethoorn is a peaceful village in the province Overijssel that is often referred to as the “Little Venice” of the Netherlands, due to its numerous waterways and absence of roads and cars. Giethoorn has beautiful canals, picturesque wooden bridges, and farmhouses with centuries old thatched roofs. All together it gives a unique fairy-tale vibe.

The village with about 2.620 habitants is unique in the Netherlands because of it’s bridges, waterways and ‘punters’ (typical boats from Giethoorn). You see 18th and 19th century farm houses hidden between the trees and 176 wooden bridges.

Giethoorn: a village without roads

As most of Giethoorn,is only accessible by boat, it has become famous for being a village without roads. It borders the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, which is the largest fen in northwestern Europe. During the trip, you’ll see the beautiful waterways and old farmhouses that line their banks andexperience the peace, tranquility and natural beauty of this magical place. You will also have free time to explore this fairy-tale village without roads on your own, take pictures or grab something to eat (lunch is not included).
