What is the bedding material for the Hungry bin? ›

Compost, humus, soil, potting mix or coconut fibre can all be used to bed the compost worms into the bin. Take care to ensure that the bedding material you use to start the bin is free draining. Place the bedding material directly into the bottom of the bin.

Answer: The Great Escape by your worms means there is an imbalance in the worm bin. Squeeze sides and gently pull the hippos out from the tabs. Remove the bags from the Hippo heads. Remove marble storage cover that's under the pond. Attach each Hippo by sliding its front tabs into the pond.

Cover ALL of the food scraps with dirt and moist paper. Exposed food attracts fruit flies, but covered food scraps don't. Add dirt and moist paper to the bin until the worms have made enough compost to use to cover the food scraps. Notice what the worms are eating and what they are not.
