Get permission to open a Google Form (2024)

If you try to open a Google Form and you get a "You need permission” message, the account you’re using doesn’t have access to the form. It could be for two reasons:

• The creator of the form might need to change a setting.
• A different Google account you own has access.

Contact the creator of the form

Important: If the creator uses Google apps for work or school, they might need to change a setting.

1. Contact the person who shared the form with you
2. Send them this suggested note:
   • "I received a Google Form from you, but I can't open it because it's restricted to people within your organization. If you want me to fill it out, follow the instructions to let people outside your domain open your form.”

Sign in to view a form

If you use Google apps through work or school, make sure you sign into the correct account. When someone makes a form through work or school, only people in their organization can open it unless the creator changes that setting.

Step 1 (optional): Sign out of your personal Gmail account

1. Go to myaccount.google.com.
2. At the top right, click your photo or the Account image .
3. Click Sign out.

Step 2: Sign in with your Google Account for work or school

1. Go to myaccount.google.com and enter your Google Account for work or school.
2. Click Next.
3. Enter your password.
4. Click Next.

After you sign in, try the link to the form again.

Let people outside your domain open your form

Important: If you turn off this restriction setting, anyone with the link can fill out your form.

If you create a form with a work or school account, you can choose if the form can be opened only within your organization or also by people outside your organization.

1. Open a form in Google Forms.
2. At the top of the form, click Settings.
3. Next to “Responses,” click the Down arrow .
4. Turn off “Restrict to users in {yourdomain.com} and its trusted organizations.”
