Become a paid caregiver through a state Medicaid program
If someone with a disability already receives Medicaid, their state may allow a family member or friend to become a paid caregiver.
Many states call this a consumer-directed personal assistance program. Each state has different requirements and rules. And the amount the program pays you to care for a family member varies by state. Contact your state’s Medicaid office for more information.

Long-term care insurance
Some long-term care insurance policies allow family members to get paid as caregivers. Contact your insurance agent and ask for a written confirmation of benefits.
Paid family leave
Some states require employers to offer family leave programs and some programs pay you to care for a family member. The eligibility requirements, the amount you will receive to provide care, and how long you can take off work varies by state. To learn more, contact your state labor office.

If your state does not offer a paid family leave program, an Area Agency on Aging (AAA) may be able to help with:
Aid and Attendance Benefits program provides monthly payments in addition to a monthly VA pension for qualified veterans and survivors. These benefits help cover the costs of a caregiver, who may be a family member. Find the VA pension management center in your area to see if you qualify.

Florida offers two major Medicaid programs that can help pay for in-home care and services and may be able to pay family caregivers: Managed Medical Assistance (MMA) and the Long-Term Care Waiver (LTC).
With the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers, you can earn a monthly stipend of up to $2,750 per month as a family caregiver to a Veteran who has a service-related disability or illness. In addition, you can access training and counseling programs to support your caregiving services.
Relative Caregiver Assistance funds are paid directly to the caregiver by the State of Florida through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds. You may apply online (English, Spanish or Creole) for benefits at ACCESS Florida or by calling the statewide call center at 1-866-762-2267.
In most cases, Florida Medicare does not pay for family caregivers. However, there are exceptions to this. A home caregiver can get paid through Medicare if they deliver qualified home health benefits, including: Medical social services.
Even though Medicare does not offer family caregiver compensation, you may still be able to find a workaround. One simple way to seek payment for your caregiving efforts is to ask the care recipient for help. If they're of sound mind, you can discuss the particulars of a paid caregiver contract.
