What happens if you ignore Gale? ›

Turns out if you just ignore him for long enough, he writes you a strongly worded letter and vanishes into the night, as spotted by Reddit user Mookie_Merkk.

If Illithid Gale surrenders the Crown, Mystra will offer to restore his humanity. To achieve this, he must leave the mortal world and go to Elysium. If he agrees, he will become the Chosen of Mystra. If he refuses, he will still receive the gratitude and favor of the goddess, so this is also a good ending.

The Weave scene is required to romance Gale at the party. - If you don't get the Weave scene after, farm approval. Generally, the other companion's cutscenes seem to mess with Gale's scene for whatever reason.

Reforging The Crown Of Karsus Will Make Gale A God

Upon completion, the wizard will then use it to become the God of Ambition, fulfilling the desires the piece of Karsus Weave instilled in him. He proclaims that he plans to support the desires and studies of all those who follow him, good or evil.

When the time comes, ask Gale not to sacrifice himself to destroy the Absolute. Since the other option simply brings the story to an abrupt end, there's no need to convince Gale. Asking him is enough to convince him to keep living and find another way to defeat the Absolute.

To make Gale successfully become a god, his personal quest must be completed, and the player character must encourage him at every turn to reforge the Crown. Gale's personal quest starts slowly in Act 1m with him explaining his condition before Elminster intervenes on Mystra's behalf in Act 2.

If you refuse to give Gale items, he'll become a liability. His rolls will suffer, making him more vulnerable, and it may lead him to make a bad deal out of desperation to remedy his condition. He may even leave the party and resent you for forcing his hand.

What Happens if You Leave Gale? If you decide to leave Gale to his fate, he'll slip back into the portal, as if you failed the two checks, and you'll miss your chance to recruit him here. We're unsure if Gale shows up again, but given Gale's Companion Quest, we can assume he might show up again in Act 2.

Illithid Ending

This ending is only available if you play as Origin Gale. At the very end of Act Three, someone in your party will have to become a Mindflayer if you do not work with the Emperor. You can have Gale become one if you are playing as him.

The next prompt we got after we completed the Gauntlet of Shar, right before the final battle of Act 2. Head back to your camp and you should find a Mirror Image of Gale in place of where Gale normally is. You'll want to follow it in order to trigger the next scene.

A God, A Human, Or A Corpse

As Gale, you'll get a second conversation with Mystra, where you can return the Crown, use it to become your own God, or even attempt to take her place as God of Magic. What happens here is up to you.

To get the "good" romantic ending, the player will need to steer Gale toward giving up his dreams of becoming a god and encourage him to give the Crown to Mystra.

Once back at camp, give the Annals of Karsus to Gale, and you can progress to the next stage of his companion quest. Though patched, if you still encounter a bug in which there is no option to give the book to Gale, select him and then place it in his inventory, and have him read it that way.

It's up to you if you want to supply him with those precious antiquities you collect on your journey, and Gale will be most grateful if you do. However, there appears to be an issue that would make Gale leave your party for good if you fail to offer him in any in future conversations.

Whatever the case, Gale will say his goodbyes and depart, never to return. It's worth noting that, despite it seeming like a very possible threat, Gale won't actually explode and kill the party if he isn't fed magic items.

To summarize: once you recruit Gale, you cannot safely ignore his quest or leave him dead for more than 1 day, you only get one chance to get rid of him by banishing him after you feed him 3-4 magical items, and you can only safely kill him at the end of his questline if he decides to keep the crown.
