The CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, remains the richest person in America despite parting with$46 billion over the past year, according to Forbes' latest rankingof the most wealthy people in the U.S.
On Wednesday, the financial magazine dropped its 38th annualForbes 400 list, and the billionaires who made the 2019 line uphave a combinednet worth of $2.96 trillion, Forbes said.Behind Bezos, who's worth an estimated $114 billion, was Microsoft entrepreneur Bill Gates, whoseworth is an estimated $106 billion.
Warren Buffet is the third-richest person in the U.S. with $80.8 billion.
"A record 221 U.S. billionaires did not make the cut this year, falling short of the $2.1 billion minimum needed to make the list," Forbes reports.Over half of the people in the lineupare self-made billionaires andfounders of their companies.

Other notable rankings include Donald Trump, whose positiondropped from No. 259 in 2018 to 275 this year, even though his net worth remained the same at $3.1 billion. Amazon's CEOtransferred a quarter of his shares to his now ex-wife,MacKenzie Bezos, who rang in at No. 15 with a net worth of $36 billion.
