Financial District Neighborhood Guide — Living in New York — VeryApt (2024)

Home to Major Financial Institutions and Professionals

New York's Financial District, or FiDi, is a financial powerhouse. Many financial offices are headquartered in this district, such as the New York Stock Exchange and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Wall Street draws many bankers, traders, and consultants to the area, and its skyscrapers and landmarks such as the 9/11 Memorial and the One World Trade Center attract tourists as well. The restaurant and bars on South Street Seaport and Stone Street are a favorite among the crowds.

Most of the buildings for rent in the Financial District are high-rises. While the work days are fast-paced, evenings and weekends slow down to a quieter neighborhood. Residents love the green outdoor spaces, the waterfront and its views, and the very accessible public transportation.

Financial District — 7.8/10 Rating

(based on 27 neighborhood reviews)

The neighborhood is quiet and has a community feel. There are a few undergraduate schools (Pace and Kings) but it does not feel like they dominate the area. It is mostly occupied by young couples and small families. Lots of schools in the area. Quiet and residential, but with the feel of a city. The neighborhood can be expensive, but you get a lot for your money. A lot of the restaurants in the area are on the more expensive side.

Many lunch places and groceries; Fulton St Market being the best onewith more variety and more reasonably priced than Jubilee or Gristedes. No hot restaurants; mostly boring places but walking distance to Tribeca which is much better. The best is it's right by 2,3,4,5,J,Z trains and A,C,N,R a few blocks away. Also driving wise all roads lead to FiDi no matter if you come from the east or west side.

The area is beautiful! Right by the water with so much grass and trees nearby. It's nice and quiet, with enough things still happening. It's a nice break from the city to come home from work, but super convenient to get to anywhere from the other side of the West Side Highway. There's outdoor dancing on the boardwalk, the seaglass carousel, luxury shopping and great restaurants.

I love living in the Fidi. It's close to every public transportation, you can walk East or West quickly. It's growing in ways I don't love, and I worry that it's just going to be one big mall soon.

Traditionally one of the best neighborhoods, however my building is in the southern end of the area. Great restaurant scene (expensive) with things like Target and whole foods close. Not the best for nightlife in general but in the summer there are great bars near the water.

Stone Street and South Street Seaport are awesome with great bars and restaurants. Its really quiet at night which is nice and you areose to almost every subway line. The only downside is that most people who live outside the area rarely trek to FiDi to go out.

FIDI is quiet at night and on the weekends. Very safe. There are plenty of great bars and restaurants with great happy hour deals though. Lots of young professionals. Easy transportation from Fulton St. Station or Wall St. Would recommend.

I love the Financial District. It is very safe, very quiet and very up and coming. There are so many new shops and restaurants opening all the time. With the addition of WTC and Brookfield, it has become even more booming.

The area has been relatively quiet since many people are still working from home. The neighborhood is very clean, and buildings are kept up well. There's not as many restaurant and bar options compared to the village, but still plenty of options close by. All of the subway lines converge at the tip of the island, so any line is close by.

Living in the FiDi was a great transition for a small town girl moving to the big city! Pretty much everyone goes home by 6 which leaves the streets quiet. The financial district is the part of the city that sleeps. There's multiple affordable grocery shops in the neighborhood, great dining on Stone St and it's home to the charging bull and The World Trade Center!

I love living in FiDi because it's a bit quieter but that's not for everyone. The groceries stores are a little far, around 10-12 minutes walk. The convenience of the train stops really makes up for it though.
