The fc command displays the contents of your command history file or invokes an editor to modify and reexecutes commands previously entered in the shell. The command history file lists commands by number. The first number in the list is selected arbitrarily.

fc is a builtin command in the Bash and Zsh shells and is an initialism for "fix command". It is particularly helpful for editing complex, multi-line commands. The editor can be specified by setting the EDITOR (changes the default editor) or the FCEDIT environment variable.

fc command is the best way to edit the previously entered commands in the case of a minor mistake without re-writing the entire command syntax and argument again. It can also be used to list the previously entered commands in the terminal which can be helpful in case you are working with some new commands.

fc stands for either “find command” or “fix command,” since it does both jobs. Use fc -l to list history commands and fc -e to edit them. See the fc entry in the section Built-in Commands in Built-in Commands for more information.

The fc command allows you to list, or edit and re-execute history file commands. It is the simplest interface to the command history file provided with the Korn shell. The fc command also allows you to manipulate the history file using your own choice of editors.

To view a list of all PCI cards found on the system, use the lspci command.

fc-list lists fonts and styles available on the system for applications using fontconfig. If any elements are specified, only those are printed. Otherwise family and style are printed, unless verbose output is requested.
