- A permit is required for new construction or remodeling work and home additions, interior or exterior renovations, mechanical equipment replacements, electrical and plumbing work. A few examples of work that require a permit are as follows: construction of a new home or room addition or garage, construction of a deck, raised patio with steps and finishing your basem*nt. Certain routine home maintenance projects do not require a permit or notification. If you are planning a project, contact the Building Division to determine if permits are needed.
