When will The Royal Mint Experience re-open?
The Royal Mint Experience will open on 31st July at 9:30am (subject to Government’s guidance).
Will it re-open 7 days a week?
The Royal Mint Experience will only be open Friday to Sunday from 9:30am to 5pm, running tours from 10am to 4:00pm. For more information, please visit our website.
Will tours be fully operational?
We will be able to accommodate up to 7 people on each tour, while the 2m rule is still in place.
Will there be a queueing system in place?
Due to a lower quantity of staff members, you may experience queues – particularly in the gift shop or at the admissions desk. There will be a queueing system in place to manage the flow of people in the safest way possible.
Will I have limited time in the exhibition?
No, the exhibition gallery will be open for you to browse in your own time, although strict social distancing measures will be in place to ensure there is no overcrowding.
Are your VIP tours still operating?
We are still finalising details for our VIP tours. Please keep an eye on royalmint.com/vip for further announcements.
What will be the ‘Strike your own coin’ when you open?
We will be opening with the Iguanodon 50p, which was in place when we closed back in March. Keep your eyes on our website and social media channels for more announcements about upcoming launches.
Is the gift shop open?
The gift shop will re-open on 31st July in line with the whole of The Royal Mint Experience, however there will be a reduced selection of products on sale, a one-way system throughout the shop and in order to manage capacities, you may be asked to wait outside the shop until someone leaves.
Is the café open?

Are you honouring tickets bought pre-coronavirus? How do I book onto a tour?

I am a group travel organiser and have a booking with you. Will our group still be able to visit?
With reduced capacities, there may be some disruption. We will contact you at least 2 weeks prior to your booking date to confirm details. If you need to contact us about your booking, please email [email protected]
Can I just turn up on the day and book a ticket?
Due to the reduced capacities, it is unlikely that walk-up tickets will be available. It is therefore essential that you book online prior to arriving.
When can I book tickets?
Existing bookings will have first refusal on dates. Tickets will go on general sale from 9am on Monday 20th July.
Will the GBCH coin swap still be taking place?
Regrettably, we will be unable to facilitate the coin swap so this event has been indefinitely cancelled.
What safety measures have you put in place?
The safety and wellbeing of our employees and customers is always our priority, and as a responsible business we have taken a number of measures to ensure we are safe to re-open.
Safety measures to be added include signage for a one-way system, stickers on the floor, barriers put in place and additional hand sanitizer stations.
A full safety guide will be published on our website prior to reopening.
Do I need to wear PPE?
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our guests and our staff, a face mask is highly encouraged while on the tour. To ensure the utmost hygiene, please try to bring your own.
Are you still making medical visors for the NHS in the RME?
The visor production continues to take place, although the team have now moved out of the experience. You will be able to find information and stories relating to this work on your visit.
What was the RME used for during the coronavirus?
We transformed The Royal Mint Experience (our visitor attraction) into an emergency production line for medical visors. The site ensures that employees are safely distanced, and allowed us to keep manufacturing jobs open when our normal production was scaled back.
