What happens when your child turns 13 on Family Link? ›

When children whose accounts are managed with Family Link turn 13 (or the applicable age in their country), they can decide to: Keep parental supervision for children over 13 (or the applicable age in their country) Manage their own Google Account.

If you want to manage your device alone without your parents being notified instantly, there is the way. Go to "Manage your Google Account" in the Play Store, then search for the Data field. Scroll down and delete your Google account associated with Family Link, and that's it!

On the day they turn 13, children can choose whether they want to manage their own Google Account or continue to have their parent manage it for them. As a parent, you can also choose to remove supervision at any time when the child is over the age of 13.

By default, Family Link makes it possible for the child to “graduate” to a regular Google account at age 13 and — if they're still on Family Link — fully transitions them into an adult account at age 18.

You can use Family Link to check your child's device use, screen time and content recommendations. If you turn on app activity data sharing, you also get insights into your child's app use, like reading activity.

Parents can access their child's account data, like emails, by signing in to the child's account. If you don't know the password, you can reset their password. Note: You can only reset your child's password if you created their account in Family Link and they're under 13 (or the applicable age in your country).

Google Family Link only works with Google accounts for children under 13 created via the Family Link app. Once a child turns 13, they can continue to use Family Link if they choose to do so.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind:If you factory reset the phone, Family Link will be removed. However, if the parent has set up other parental controls, such as screen time limits, these will still be in place. If you create a new Google account, you will need to download all of your apps and data again.

Disconnect Child's Account from Parent's Family Link App – On your parent's device and Family Link app, go to your child's profile and select “Remove [child's name] from family.” This will disconnect monitoring without losing their account.

In case you do not know the PIN for the Play Store, you can navigate to Settings > Apps or Apps & notifications > Google Play Store > Storage > Clear Data > Ok. Alternatively, you can disable parental controls using the Family Link app.

You can't stop supervision until your child reaches the applicable age to manage their own Google Account. To stop supervision with a parent's device: On your parent device, open the Family Link app.

Once your child reaches the age of 13 (or equivalent minimum age depending on jurisdiction), they will be permitted to maintain their account without participating in Family Sharing.

If you have a Google account set up for your child, you can adjust the parental controls using the Family Link app. You can only disable supervision if your child is over 13. If you don't remember the family Link passcode or, you will need to Factory Reset your Android phone and sign in with a new account.
