Do you begin each day with an uplifting daily practice?
What is a daily practice? A daily practice is a routine that you do each day that makes you feel calmer and happier. It has
a positive effect on your mental, emotional, spiritual and physical well being.
If possible, a daily practise is best done at the beginning of each day. It sets a positive tone for the rest of your day. There are different practices you can do to stay mental and emotionally balanced: yoga, stretching, drawing, singing, walking. I imagine that you have already guessed what mine is.
Hands-on self Reiki.
If you have completed Restore Naturally Reiki course you know that I begin each day with hands-on self-Reiki practice and have done since I learnt how to in 2002.
There are different ways you can experience the benefits of self-Reiki.
6 tips to inspire your self-Reiki practise:
1. Set aside 15 or more minutes to begin your practice. 30 minutes is ideal.
Do self-Reiki:
- In your lounge room on a mat or couch
- Before you get out of bed
- In your backyard or a nearby park
It’s best to find somewhere that’s comfortable. Can’t find a quiet area? That’s not a problem. The sounds you hear can help bring your mind back to the present moment if you start to notice that it wanders during your practice.
2. Decide where to place your hands
Your hara (lower abdomen), your head, your shoulders, your heart energy centre (located in the centre of your chest) or the complete sequence you learnt in Reiki Level One are ideal areas for self-Reiki.
Change hand positions when you feel it’s time to move to the next hand position or Reiki the same area for 15 to 30 minutes
3. Where does your mind wander to during your self-Reiki practice?
- Do you begin thinking about what happened yesterday or what might happen during the day?
- Do you notice certain feelings taking place within you?
- Do you notice reoccurring thought patterns?
- Are your thoughts inspiring? Are they love based (hope, peace, joy, gratitude e.t.c.) or fear based (worry, doubt, anger e.t.c).
Whatever they are, practice noticing them without judgement and then letting them go.
The more you practice hands-on self-Reiki, the more your thoughts and feelings are focused on peace & gratitude and less on fear and worry.
4. Notice physical sensations you experience in your hands
- Do your hands feel warm when you do Reiki on yourself?
- Do they remain at the same temperature during your Reiki practice?
- Do you tend to keep your hands in one position longer than another?
It’s okay if your hands remain at the same temperature and don’t become hot each time you practice on yourself. Instead, notice how you feel before and after your Reiki practice. Do you feel better and more relaxed?
5. Breathe into your lower abdomen
During your Reiki practice breathe into your hara (lower abdomen). Feel your lower belly rise as you inhale and soften as you exhale.
Deep breathing relaxes your central nervous system and brings your mind to the present moment.
6. Having a daily hands-on Reiki practice connects you with gratitude & peace.
Hands-on Reiki practise is deeply relaxing and healing. It directly affects your central nervous system. When your central nervous system is relaxed you experience more positive mental and emotional states and cope more effectively with life’s challenges. A daily self Reiki practice is excellent self-care.
