Enabling NFC on your device | UtilizeCore Help Center (2024)

Near Field Communication (NFC) is central for transferring data between two devices. When you scan a tag in your Equip ID app, NFC is the function that makes this possible.

But how does it work and how do you use it? We’ll walk you through the essential information you need to know about using NFC and how to enable it on your device. See device requirements here.

How to turn on NFC on an Android Phone

Make sure you’re running the latest version of Android. The majority of new Android smartphones have an NFC chip in the phone.

  1. On your Android device, tap on “Settings"

  2. Select “Connected devices”

  3. Select “Connection preferences”

  4. You should see “NFC” and “Android Beam” options

  5. Turn both of them on

Depending on your android device, these two options could be located in a different folder. If you can’t find them, open up the settings menu, tap the search icon on top, and type in “NFC”. If your phone has it, the NFC option will show up.

How to turn on NFC on an Apple Phone

iOS 11 allows iPhones 7 and up to read NFC tags automatically. iPhones 6 and 6S can be used to make NFC payments, but not to read NFC tags.

iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone XR include a new feature that enables the device to scan NFC tags in the background. With current iPhones, users must first launch an app to enable NFC Reader mode.

With the iPhone Xs and iPhone XR, the user can simply walk up to a compatible NFC tag, wake the iPhone screen, and scan it.
