How easy is it to switch majors in UC Berkeley? ›

Changing majors within a school is relatively easy. You apply as a specific major at UC Berkeley, and are admitted as that major. Changing afterwards may be done within your college, but is difficult for high demand majors; these vary by college.

The EECS major had an acceptance rate of 4.5% for the Class of 2027, and will likely stay around its usual ~5% acceptance rate.

Currently, Berkeley only guarantees the review of the primary major and will not review students for an alternate major. Q: How should I decide what my primary major should be versus an alternate major?

It is one of the most prestigious, not only as an EECS department in a public university, but ranked globally among all EE and CS departments.

Civil, Industrial, and Environmental engineering are usually the easiest engineering majors to matriculate into.

There is no difference in the computer science course content between the EECS and CS Majors – the difference is what other subjects you'd like to study. If you prefer greater flexibility in your coursework or are interested in exploring additional majors, then the CS Major might be a good choice.

At the University of California-Berkeley, the three most popular college majors students pursue are Computer Science, Econometrics and Quantitative Economics, and Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology.

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS): This major is one of the most challenging at UC Berkeley due to its rigorous coursework and high demand in the job market.

An advanced degree can make a difference in your starting salary. In 2015, UC Berkeley EECS graduates were offered average starting salaries of $100,000 at the B.S. level, $111,400 at the M.S. level, and $112,000 at the Ph.

The standard criterion for eligibility to change your major requires that you are in good academic standing. However, some majors follow change of major criteria that is more restrictive than the standard criterion. These criteria have been formally approved by the Council on Educational Policy (CEP).
