In Puerto Rico, Uber is the most popular ride-sharing app you can use.
Lyft is not operating in Puerto Rico.

A taxi can cost you a minimum of $20 USD per ride, so Uber is relatively cheap in Puerto Rico.
You’ll usually see the price surge late at night and around popular areas like Old San Juan, Condado, and Isla Verde.
Is Uber in Puerto Rico safe?
Taking an Uber in Puerto Rico is safe.
Not only is it safe, but Uber is very reliable. I would often use Ubers at times I did not have means of transportation, and it’s much cheaper than taking a taxi.
Uber drivers, just like in the US mainland, must go through background checks for safety measures.

Uber runs at night in Puerto Rico.
You can order an Uber 24/7 from anywhere in the San Juan/Metro area.
Late at night is when price surges occur, be aware that you might spend double what you would pay in the day if ordering an Uber at night.
However, Ubering at night is safe and recommended if you’re going to party late at night.
Does San Juan have Lyft & Uber?
The only ride-sharing app San Juan has is Uber.
This is because Lyft has yet to reach Puerto Rico.
You only have two options when transporting around the metro area: Taking a taxi or ordering an Uber.
Is taking a taxi better than using Uber?
Ordering a taxi in Puerto Rico can be expensive and only takes you to certain parts of San Juan.
Touristic zones set taxi rates, so if you’re looking to get around Puerto Rico without a rental car, taking a taxi everywhere may not be budget-friendly

Can I rely on Uber to explore Puerto Rico?
Uber only operates in the Metro region of Puerto Rico.
The metro region consists of the municipalities of San Juan, Bayamón, Guaynabo, Trujillo Alto, Cataño, Carolina, Toa Alta and Toa Baja, and more.
Although it covers a big portion of the island, keep in mind that the farther away you are from San Juan, the more expensive the ride will be.
Most drivers are located in the San Juan area as well. You’ll easily find a ride from San Juan to Arecibo, but you might not find much luck getting an Uber from Arecibo back to San Juan.
Get a rental car if you want to explore the island without restriction and worry about transportation availability.
