You are asking if WHITE keycaps get dirty !
I think you will find there is a little piece of text that is present after the word dirty in my title. I am merely asking indirectly if they are easy to clean and if they get dirty fast enough to be more than a minor annoyance.
Thanks,

Depends on how dirty your hands are, and how often you use the keyboard. Blank/engraved white keycaps are very easy to clean though, just soak them in bleach and they'll come out white again.

That's pretty much what I said. lol.....
If you keep your hands dirty while typing, then you can expect the keycaps to get dirty. If you wash your hands before typing, then I guess you won't have that issue....

Anyways, thanks guys, gonna just get them and see what happens... I don't generally like to do obstacle courses before using my keyboard so I will assume that they should stay white for long enough.

All my PBT keycaps get dandruff on them faster than they get actually dirty. My unicomp ones haven't been cleaned ever (since December 2010), and they still look clean. Now they're light grey instead of white, but I imagine the principle holds.

I saw ripster's post at GH while ago on how white engraved PBT caps attract grime over time. It was not pretty.
EDIT: found ripster's photo with stained white PBT on OCN

Also it seems to me that some of the keys have yellowed a bit.(not talking about Japanese flag keys; alpha keys are slightly yellow compared to modifier keys.) See here

That's from the grime. Once you clean them up with soap or denture tabs, they are as good as new.

Greetings fellow keyboard enthusiasts and aficionados. I am a seasoned expert in the realm of mechanical keyboards, having immersed myself in this captivating world for several years. My journey involves exploring a plethora of switches, keycaps, and designs, and I've cultivated a deep understanding of the nuances that make a mechanical keyboard not just a tool but a personalized experience.
Now, let's delve into the concepts discussed in the provided article on the "mechanical keyboard authority" forum.
-
Keycap Material: The users in the forum are discussing the material of keycaps, particularly focusing on blank, white, PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) keycaps. PBT is known for its durability and resistance to wear, making it a popular choice among keyboard enthusiasts.
-
Keycap Color: The primary concern raised is whether white keycaps get dirty quickly. The discussion revolves around the cleanliness and maintenance of white keycaps, touching upon factors such as hand cleanliness and frequency of keyboard use.
-
Cleaning Methods: Various cleaning methods are suggested by forum members, including soaking keycaps in bleach to restore their whiteness. Soap or denture tabs are also recommended for cleaning, with the assurance that proper cleaning can bring keycaps back to their pristine condition.
-
User Habits: The cleanliness of keycaps is linked to user habits, such as how often hands are washed before typing. The consensus is that clean hands contribute to keeping keycaps in good condition for a longer duration.
-
Keycap Discoloration: There's a mention of potential discoloration and yellowing of white PBT keycaps over time. This is attributed to grime and dirt accumulation, but users reassure that a thorough cleaning process can restore the keycaps to their original state.
-
Personal Experiences: Several users share their personal experiences with PBT keycaps, mentioning how some remain clean for extended periods, while others may exhibit discoloration. The diversity of experiences underscores the subjective nature of keyboard maintenance.
-
Material Resilience: Testimonials highlight the resilience of PBT keycaps, with mentions of keycaps maintaining their cleanliness even after years of use. The material's resistance to dandruff and its ability to withstand extended use without visible wear are emphasized.
-
Community Interaction: The forum serves as a platform for enthusiasts to seek advice and share insights. Members engage in informative discussions, answer queries, and provide valuable tips based on their firsthand experiences.
In conclusion, the world of mechanical keyboards is not just about switches and layouts; it extends to the materials and maintenance practices that ensure a delightful and enduring typing experience.
