Discord is very much an active platform and there are no reports to suggest that it is going to 'shut down'.
A social media went viral on Saturday claiming that Discord was "shutting down". The post originally added on February 28 started to gain traction over time other users also started making similar unverified claims. However, Discord's founders made no such official announcement about the company "shutting down" its services. People on the internet got more confused when a lot of posts about individuals shutting their own specific Discord servers started showing in the feed.
The post made through an account @redshibe_ on X with a user name Alice was widely viewed by a strong community of social media micro-blogging sites' of over 500,000 users. It went viral so much so that a community notes fact-check was flagged below suggesting that Discord "shut down" was a false piece of information.
Another post made through an account with around 122k followers on March 10 again made the same claim about Discord services' alleged shutdown. This time again the post was seen by over 500K people till the time this report was published.
All these claims made through such posts are likely to be false. Discord’s creators have made no announcements regarding shutting down. The rumors come in the aftermath of the shutdown of Discord’s chatbot Clyde in December 2023, the closing of individual Discord servers, and fake messages sent to users on the platform.
Meanwhile, BlockGames took to X and announced its plan to airdrop its new $BLOCK on the instant messaging and VoIP social platform. "Reminder, official dates for the $BLOCK airdrop will be announced in Tomorrow Night’s Discord AMA at 9:30 PM UTC," BlockGames informed suggesting that the platform operations continued as usual.
Recently, a Discord employee accidentally shared a new update log that talked about the platform adding back its “swipe to view members” feature. Before it was ready for release the log was accidentally added in the log. Discord later clarified that it was still working on it.
