Key Difference – Google vs Yahoo
The key difference between Google and Yahoo is that Google has a large market share and has a wider scope whereas Yahoo has a small market share and is a good option for entertainment. Google and Yahoo have been the major players in the internet and software industry and have a history of rivalries. Both search engines have been competing for a long time. Although it may seem Google is the clear winner of the two, there are some areas in which Yahoo is able to outperform Google. Let us take a closer look at both these search engines to see clearly what they have to offer. Both companies differ only is some aspects in comparison with their overall products.

What is Google
Google is a multinational internet cooperation. The company was founded by Larry page and Sergey Brin in 1998. As Google’s mission statement suggests, its goal is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and usable; even today the company is forging towards achieving its mission. Google, in addition to search, provides cloud computing, advertising technologies, and software technologies.
Google mainly rose to fame with its search engine. It later expanded into an email, office suite, applications for web browsing, social networking, instant messaging, photo editing, and various other partnerships and acquisitions. Google also powers YouTube, Blogger, Google +, Google Chrome, Google AdWords, Google AdSense, Google Apps, and Google maps.
Google also developed the android operating system and Google Chrome OS browser-only. Google has also launched a series of smartphones called Nexus in partnership with major electronics manufacturers. It also deployed a fiber optic infrastructure in the city of Kansas as a part of a fiber optic project. So it is clear that in comparison Google has a wider scope when compared to yahoo.
Industry estimates suggest that Google is running over a million servers all over the world to cater billions of requests and user-generated data each day. Google is also a leader in the software industry. It has rapidly grown since it began and is the most visited website in the world. According to Alexa web traffic ranking, Google is placed No.1 for top websites.
Google’s main source of revenue, as with many companies, is through advertising. It is mainly through Google AdWords. Google’s core product is its search engine. Google search uses link popularity in ranking websites. Google lists sites higher on their pages as it believes users have voted these sites as good by linking them. This also helps the user to find sites that are deemed relevant. This is the reason behind Google being on the top of the search engine sites as it provides the user with the most relevant sites. Google focuses on more on backlinks and off page optimization.
What is Yahoo
Although in many instances Google engine may seem far better, Yahoo has services that Google cannot beat. They are as follows.

Yahoo claims it caters to the request of half a billion customers each month in over 30 languages. According to Alexa web traffic ranking, Yahoo. Com was placed 6th in ranking for top websites. Yahoo generates its revenue also via advertising.
Yahoo focuses on page optimization, H1 tags, and keyword density to rank its pages. Yahoo uses web crawlers to monitor the above features.
