What does Deuteronomy 8-17-18 mean? ›

It is the attitude. Wealth with humility is a great blessing, and wealth and power mixed with pride is a great evil. The means to retain humility is to remember that it is the LORD who is giving power to make wealth.

The word “power” here is the Hebrew word OZAZ (OZ) which translated Zayin, Zayin, Ayin. Zayin means “weapon” or “Sword.” Ayin means “eye”, “to see” “to understand” . The God of Israel is giving them the weapon, the sword (to execute) and the ability to see (insights) and to understand the ways to make wealth.

Moses directs to the duty of a prosperous condition. Let them always remember their Benefactor. In everything we must give thanks. Moses arms them against the temptations of a prosperous condition.

Deuteronomy Is About Growing Faith

Obedience to a command like this takes faith, as it means that we must admit that God is the only god who exists and remain loyal to him only.

Sermon Notes. Never Forget. Deuteronomy 8:1-18. Moses is giving his final speech to Israel; he is preparing them to cross the Jordan and enter that fair land they had waited 40 years to enter. Moses cannot enter the promised land with them, so he wants them to have these final words.

This part of the First Commandment strictly prohibits us from creating an idol of any kind. An idol is biblically defined as a created image or representation of a god used as an object of worship. An idol is something that distracts a person from our living God. Something that invites affection and passion.
