There’s always a go-to move, a paramour weapon or a much-loved hat in every game. In case of League of Legends, it’s undoubtedly the player’s choicest role that binds them in eternal love (or eh, not so much, at times) with the game. A recent post on a popular discussion platform struck a chord with avid LoL players, turning the spotlight on the roles they’d rather not play.
Top and Jungle roles seem ‘top’ the list for least favourites, with the ADC role following closely. The reasons are varied, ranging from intensive skill requirements to low entertainment value.
Champion choices for least favourite roles tend to lean towards lower complexity champions or ones that require less overall game knowledge to employ effectively.
Role preference is greatly influenced by the perceived level of complexity, responsibilities in-game and the level of dependence on teammates.
Role Call
Starting from the top, Reddit user Igniflare rolls eyes at ADC, “It’s not a problem with the role itself, I’m just bad at marksmen and can’t perform well enough to justify playing it.” The problem isn’t quite universal yet. For jsmessner, the Jungler role is a tough one to handle, admitting, “even when I think I play well, I still suck.”
Championing Champions
A little love for the champions please? Britainsolenothing prefers simple yet robust champions like Malphite when in Top, citing it as easier for him because all he has to do is “press R on a carry”. There’s also a shout-out from FrogVoid for playing Mid or Jungle, lamenting the team’s annoying behaviour when they constantly push up, making his tasks challenging.
Aye Aye Captain! Do We Hear Resentment?
When the roles get rough, the tough get chuckling. Deleph chuckles, “Way too much work to do in the jungle and people are always complaining you’re not fixing their mistakes.” Talk about being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, eh? NormalTypes seems to agree, revealing, “Top because you’re so far away from all the fun.”
From role juggling struggles to the sheer joy (or not) of playing specific roles – the League of Legends community dons various hats, sometimes begrudgingly. But hey, isn’t that part of the thrill? To love, lose, and loathe all in the same game. Keeps us coming back for more, doesn’t it?
Summary. Top and Jungle roles seem 'top' the list for least favourites, with the ADC role following closely. The reasons are varied, ranging from intensive skill requirements to low entertainment value.
Support role in League of Legends is currently one of the most broken and overpowered roles. Playing support allows for significant impact and influence on the game's outcome.
A team's support is considered the most selfless role of most matches and ideal for people new to League of Legends. People who play support roles are expected to assist their teammates at all times. The support champion of a team is often situated at the bot lane and goes hand-in-hand with the AD carry.
Summary. ADC is now the least mained role across ELOs in the EUW region of League of Legends, though popular in higher ELO. Damage output and game balance issues are the significant factors causing dissatisfaction among players.
Jungle. Arguably the most influential and impactful role in League, the Jungler is looking to secure objectives around the map and provide an impact for teammates.
Easiest Role - Support. There's a reason that Support is often recommended for beginners to pick up and for players to learn as an off-role to their primary lane. ...
Top lane is like a coin flip. It can be relatively easy to learn because you're generally working hard in your lane for the beginning half of the game.
ADC and mid traditionally pick up the most kills. Top would be around the middle in picking up kills. In general, top lane is going to be more focused on farming and a lot of top laners are going to be focused on building tanky, moreso than building damage. Junglers are completely situational.
Junglers have better kill participation than top laners, which makes sense, since they are always moving around the map and so will have more opportunity to initiate and participate in kills.
The title of the hardest and strongest role goes to the jungler, and for good reasons. They must quickly make game-altering decisions and master complex tasks, from ganking lanes and predicting enemy jungle pathing, to denying enemy resources and securing objectives under constant pressure.
According to user insights and League of Graphs data, the current contenders for the least played champion throne are Ivern, Taric, Corki, Kled, and Singed.
Tiers under those are split into four divisions each, numbered from 1 (I), the highest tier, through 4 (IV), the lowest tier. Players within each division are ranked using a point system called League Points (LP). Players promote and demote from tiers and divisions, based on their LP.
