Crimson Planet (2024)

Crimson Planet is a 2.0/2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration level hosted and published by TrueOmega and verified by Wooshi on 19 May 2018. It is a short yet difficult Extreme Demon (almost three times shorter duration-wise than Bloodlust). Crimson Planet is considered more challenging than Bloodlust but easier than Zodiac as it is over two minutes longer than Crimson Planet.

In June 2019, Zodiac got moved from the #1 spot on the Demonlist into the Legacy List due to an update. As a result, Crimson Planet claimed the #1 spot for one day until this change was reverted, with Zodiac reclaiming its former spot.

History[]

Crimson Planet was somewhat started in Update 2.0, when Terron entered Viprin's Creator Contest 7,^[1] which was to decide the replacement for Manix648's part in Yatagarasu.^[2] Terron's entry featured intense fast-paced gameplay with many portal changes.^[3]

However, AbstractDark won the contest,^[4] so Terron decided to use his part for a new hell-themed level - Crimson Planet.

On 27 February 2017, Zimnyte revealed his part in the level, which consisted of a combination of two of his styles.^[5]

On 25 October 2017, Metalface221 revealed his part in the level, which consisted of several fast-paced cube timings and a tight ship sequence.^[6]

On 11 January 2018, Wooshi achieved a 36-100% run. He stated in the video description that it took him about an hour to get, and the level is not as hard as Sonic Wave.^[7] On 12 January 2018, he uploaded a video showcasing his part in the level. It featured several tight and precise wave spaces.^[8]

On 22 April 2018, Wooshi got a new record of 92% twice.^[9] Due to this, he made 92% auto by adding invisible blocks.

Gameplay[]

• 0-15% (nikrodox): The level begins with an incredibly difficult cube section that requires pixel-perfect timing. After a short ball and robot section, the level transitions into a difficult ship sequence requiring much skill. During the buildup to the drop, the player becomes a cube, and the part ends.
• 15-22% (TrueOmega): TrueOmega's part is almost entirely an insanely difficult triple-speed wave segment that requires a ton of skill and manoeuvring. It switches between sizes and gravity very frequently. The part ends with an easier cube section.
• 22-28% (EndLevel): EndLevel's part starts with a difficult ship sequence with some straight-fly and ends with a difficult UFO segment with many orbs and portals in tight spaces that requires lots of skill.
• 28-36% (YakobNugget): YakobNugget's part begins with a brief auto cube section and a short straight-fly section. An extremely tight and difficult wave segment follows with moving spikes. The part ends with a brief but tight spider after a brief ship section.
• 36-44% (Dz3ser): Dz3ser's part begins with some extremely tight straight-fly, followed by an extremely fast-paced and tight wave section. The part ends with a difficult half-speed timing-based UFO segment.
• 44-53% (Terron): Terron's part features some very fast-paced gameplay, with a cube section, a very tight wave part, another cube part, a very tight UFO segment, some straight-fly and a brief timing-based ball. The part ends with a half-speed robot segment.
• 53-64% (AimTheSame): AimTheSame's part starts with a brief cube and robot part, followed by a tight ship sequence. After a tight and fast-paced wave segment, the part ends with a difficult tight UFO segment.
• 64-72% (Zimnyte): Zimnyte's part starts with a very fast-paced but dark spider segment, followed by a difficult timing-based UFO segment and cube section. A very tight and difficult wave segment with varying sizes and gravity is next, but extremely difficult to see, with a dark background and block combination.
• 72-83% (TrusTa + Metalface221): Their part begins with a very tight timing-based mini-cube section, followed by a brief UFO segment. After a tight ship sequence with lots of straight-flying, the part ends with a fast-paced mini-cube section.
• 83-100% (MrPPs): MrPPs's part begins with a mini-cube section, followed by a short quadruple-speed ship sequence with even more straight-flying. After a fast and tight wave section and spider segment, the part ends with some straight-fly with many gravity portals. The text at the end displays 'THE END'. The level concludes with the credits featuring everyone participating in the collaboration, and the level name appears right after.

Fails[]

• On 22 April 2018, Wooshi suffered a 92% death before the credits.^[9] Due to this, he harshly nerfed it out of rage but has now undone most of the nerfs.
  • Wooshi has buffed and nerfed the level numerous times.
• Mycrafted paused and accidentally exited the level after he passed the last part because he pressed the wrong key on his keyboard while trying to unmute himself. He technically beat the level because it is not physically possible to die between the place in the level where this occurred and the very end of the level. However, due to Pointercrate regulations, the achievement stands invalid for the Demonlist.^[10] He since has completed it on 14 March 2020.^[11]

Notable Completions[]

• nSwish had been the first to complete the level legitimately on 25 May 2019.^[12]
• Two players made big jumps on the level, Amerii beat this as its second List Demon, jumping from Bloodbath, and Kuiper beat this as his seventh Extreme Demon as a jump from Erebus, in just 136,008 attempts.
  • Kuiper's attempt count surpasses npesta's 135,320 attempts of his Kenos verification by a tiny margin, only to be beaten by Zupreme's 270,843 attempts with his Cognition completion.
    • However, the real attempt record beforehand was Muffy450's ~634,000 attempt count on Sonic Wave.
• Amza, not only beat Tartarus and Renevant, but he also beat Crimson Planet within a week after his previous record of 60% in less than a day. Amza beat three Top 10s within a week in May 2021, making the first and only player to do so, which impacted the skill base of the game's history.^[13]
• Blackmg not only beat Crimson Planet on 144hz, but he also has a 60hz record run of 28-100%.
  • SeaWolfMikes has a record run on 35-100% on 60hz mobile. It was also his fourth progress video on the level.
• Skarro was first to beat Crimson Planet on a controller on 9 March 2021, making him the first person to have done so and marking the hardest Demon completed on a controller at the time.^[14] It was later dethroned by 12_Kelvin's Zodiac completion on a controller on 4 December 2021.
  • His current hardest Demon completed on a controller is Firework on 26 March 2022.
• Zentel is the first person to beat Crimson Planet on mobile, beating it between 11/12 November 2021 and making it a new Top 1 Demon on the High Refresh Rate Mobile Demonlist.^[15]

• The level's password is 123456.
• The level contains 92,004 objects.
  • It has an object density of 1,393 objects per second, making its objects denser than The Yandere.
• The level is 1m 7s in length.
• The level was finally rated on 9 May 2019, almost a year after the verification.
• The level was initally placed at #2 on the Demonlist on 9 May 2019, ranked above Bloodlust (#3) and below Zodiac (#1).
  • This addition pushed Sonic Wave out of the Top 5 for the second time; this addition also pushed Mystic into the Extended List and Incipient into the Legacy List, both for the first time.
    • Sonic Wave used to be the longest standing former Top 1 level in the Top 5 with 866 days; this was now dethroned by Zodiac with 938 days after the placement of Hard Machine on 2 October 2021.
    • Due to Zodiac getting removed temporarily from the list for a day, Crimson Planet's one-day reign makes it the 30th level to claim the Top 1 spot in the game's history.
      • If Crimson Planet had been rated the same day of its verification, it would have easily been placed at #1 for about eight months.
      • This level formerly holds the record for shortest reign at #1, lasting only a day before Zodiac was updated to the original level and snatched the #1 spot again. The record was broken when Firework was placed at #1 until Slaughterhouse was placed above 18 seconds later.
        • It is currently #3 on the High Refresh Rate Mobile Demonlist, ranked above Cold Sweat (#4) and below Bloodlust (#2).
• There is an Easter egg in this level with the message 'what can I say except you're welcome'. Triggering it will kill the player at the end of the level, but what causes this to happen is unknown. It is a reference to the song 'You're Welcome' by The Rock from the 2016 American film Moana.
• MetaManRB has made fast runs on this level. Within a week of release, he had managed to get some good runs, like 36-100%.^[16] This caused Wooshi to think he had overestimated the difficulty of the level, but MetaManRB clarified that the level was still extremely difficult.
• Wooshi has beaten the level twice, the second time in a higher quality.^[17]
• Aimthesame's old part in the level has become a meme all over Twitter because of how bad it was.
• There was an upcoming sequel called Scarlet Sirius.^[18]It was presumed dead for a very long time until a preview of the level was released.
• Wooshi used to be hosting another sequel to this level, 'Vermillion Venture'.
• Flaaroni made an April Fools' joke where he pretended to beat it on a copyable while noclipping it and talking through the level.^[19] He did the same thing with Tartarus the next year.
• A player named Lexy is now hosting an unofficial sequel to this level called Corrupted Planet (formerly Violet Planet). It is set to be the Top 1-difficulty in the decoration process. Zamasu is the current verifier with 81-100% and 25-34% runs.
• Crimson Planet was pushed out of the Top 50 on the Demonlist after the placement of COMBUSTION on 17 October 2023.
• The placement of DISSONANCE on 27 August 2024 pushed Crimson Planet into the Extended List of the Demonlist.
