ADA has its native Cardano blockchain which cannot be added to your Metamask wallet. The only way to add ADA to your Metamask Wallet is via the Binance-Peg ADA token, which is native to Binance Smart Chain. You can only hold ADA on Metamask via the Binance-Peg ADA token, not the native ADA token of the Cardano blockchain. This is because Metamask does not support the Cardano network, but you can add Binance Smart Chain to Metamask.
In this article, we will discuss:
Go to Metamask and make sure you are using Binance Smart Chain
The first thing you need to do is make sure you are using Binance Smart Chain on Metamask.
Select 'Import Tokens' and then 'Import Custom Token'
Once on the Binance Smart Chain, the next step will be to select 'Import Tokens'.
On the Binance Smart Chain network, you can only import custom tokens.
This is different from adding tokens to the Ethereum Mainnet, where you can automatically search and add tokens like MANA or SAND.
Copy Binance Smart Chain Contract from CoinMarketCap
For the next part, you can go to the ADA page at CoinMarketCap.
I prefer to use CoinMarketCap to get the contract address as it is one of the most trusted websites regarding cryptocurrencies.
It is important to ensure that the website you are getting the contract address from is a reliable source!
There is a section called 'Contracts' where you will see the BSC contract for ADA.
Check if ADA is detected and select 'Add Custom Token'
After copying the contract address, you can paste it into the 'Token Contract Address' field in Metamask.
If you pasted in the correct contract address, the ADA should automatically appear as the Token Token.
After selecting 'Add Custom Token', you will need to confirm the ADA import once more.
After successfully importing ADA into your Metamask wallet, you should see it as one of your assets on Binance Smart Chain.
This will allow you to view any ADA you have deposited through the BSC!
Conclusion
When you add ADA on Metamask, you are holding ADA that is on Binance Smart Chain (BEP20). This allows you to send and receive ADA on Binance Smart Chain, even if Cardano's native network is different from Binance Smart Chain.
