Having your graphics card fail can cause catastrophic problems with your PC or laptop, not to mention the downtime you will endure while you wait to get this fixed, in our latest blog, we’re looking at what can cause the issues and how you can prevent them. Understanding these causes is essential for you to identify potential issues and take appropriate measures to prevent or rectify them.
- Graphics cards generate a significant amount of heat during operation and if they are unable to disperse this heat effectively, it can lead to thermal stress and eventual failure. Factors such as poor ventilation, dust accumulation, or inadequate cooling solutions can exacerbate the problem, causing the card to overheat and potentially damage the sensitive electronic components.
- Inadequate power supply or fluctuations in power delivery can strain the card’s circuitry and components, leading to instability and failure. Insufficient power connectors, incompatible power supply units or overclocking beyond the card’s capabilities can all increase the risk of power-related failures.
- Hardware defects or manufacturing flaws can also play a role in graphic card failures. Even with stringent quality control measures defects can occur during the manufacturing process, affecting various components on the card. These defects may not be immediately apparent but can manifest over time, resulting in performance degradation or complete failure.
- Incompatible or outdated drivers, conflicting software, or malware can cause instability in the system, leading to crashes or errors. Over time, the strain imposed by these software-related issues can impact the card’s overall functionality.
- Physical damage. Accidental drops, or exposure to liquids can damage the delicate circuitry or connectors, rendering the card unusable.
- It may sound quite simple but dust can play havoc with your graphics card. Creating a conductive layer, this can cause a short circuit in your GPU and cause it to fail therefore proper periodical cleaning is a must.

In late 2019 a new global health threat was emerging that would change the world for years to come. Within 3 months of covid-19 arriving on our shores, testing systems, technologies and stations were being developed and deployed to control and track the spread.
RMI were contracted by the UK Health Security Agency to provide a mobile PCR testing system that would aim to have around 150 mobile testing vehicles travelling from community to community. In turn, RMI had an instant requirement for an IT partner that could come onboard and quickly develop an online platform that would host a central database capable of processing 1000’s of results a day and feed data directly to Public Health England.
RMI was recommended to Integrity Technology who already provided IT services to other Lab Partners. The team were quick to assess and start development of the platform that would host the core servers, 8 in total. Around 150 laptops were also configured and quickly deployed. The whole system, from laptops, communications to the online servers was exceptionally reliable and served RMI well for the duration of the project, any issues were dealt with effectively and efficiently.
In May 2022 Public Health England ceased the project and the system was archived and decommissioned. Integrity and the team have been instrumental in RMI’s successful delivery of the project. Communication and support was second to none, adjusting to our needs at all times and working round the clock to meet near impossible deadlines. With RMI now bidding for other large scale and complex projects, if we need an IT partner, Integrity would be a team we would reach out to immediately.
