Starting your adventure in digital identity and cryptocurrency?
A .eth domain is your first big step! Our easy-to-follow guide below breaks down how you can secure your very own .eth domain through ENS.Vision. From setting up your wallet to making a purchase without needing ETH upfront, we cover it all. Whether you’re a crypto newbie or a seasoned enthusiast, let’s get you set up with a domain that’s uniquely yours!
Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a decentralized domain name system built on the Ethereum blockchain. It transforms those complex, numeric Ethereum addresses into human-readable names. Think of it as the crypto equivalent of turning a GPS coordinate into a simple street address. This transformation makes it easier to send and receive digital assets, interact with decentralized applications, and establish a consistent digital identity.
➡️ Let’s get started!
What you need first: A “digital” wallet.
How-To:
- Download a wallet app (MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet etc.) or visit their homepage to set up your wallet.
- Create your wallet. Follow the app’s security instructions carefully.
- Securely note down your wallet’s recovery phrase.
What you need: A domain name idea.
How-To:
- Think creatively! Your domain name should represent YOU, your brand, your vision, your art, your character!
- Aim for something short, catchy, and relevant, or let your imagination flow.
- Write down your ideas. (Keep in mind, that ENS domain names must be at least 3 characters long to be registered. f.E: abc.eth or 123.eth)
What You Need: Internet access (basic xD), your set-up wallet, and your domain name idea.
How-To:
- Go to ENS.Vision and click “Connect Wallet” in the upper right corner.
- Connect your wallet. ENS.Vision supports nearly all wallet connections (over 300), so you can use your favourite one!
- Use the search bar to find your chosen .eth domain
- With the top search bar, you can instantly check if your name is open for registration or up for sale. (Details on the difference between registering and buying a domain are coming up below.)
- Or use the “Bulk Search” Option and search for multiple names simultaneously.
- You can also browse categories to find inspiring names or snag some cheap deals on your favourite names
- Registering a Domain: When you register a new .eth domain, it means you are creating a new and unique name that hasn’t been claimed by anyone else before. This process requires you to have ETH because you’re essentially minting a new digital asset on the Ethereum blockchain.
- Expiration After Registering a Domain: When you register a .eth domain, it’s important to note that this registration is not indefinite. The domain will expire after the specific time period you choose at the time of registration, such as one year, two years, etc. To retain ownership, you’ll need to renew the registration before this period ends.
- Buying a Domain: Buying a domain refers to the purchase of an existing (already minted) .eth name from someone else. These domains are already registered and owned by others who are now selling them. On ENS.Vision, you can buy these existing domains directly using a credit card, making the transaction easier if you’re not familiar with or don’t possess ETH.
- Expiration When Buying a Domain: If you’re buying an already registered .eth domain from someone else, the expiration date is set based on the time period the previous owner chose during their registration. This means the domain could expire sooner than a newly registered domain, depending on when the original owner registered it and for how long. After purchasing, you’ll be responsible for renewing the registration to maintain ownership beyond this set expiration date.
Follow the Checkout-Process on ENS.Vision to successfully claim your domain.
What You Need: Your Registered .eth domain.
How-To:
- Set up your domain as your “primary” to point to your Ethereum wallet for receiving payments.
- Add records like email, social media handles, and more to build your digital identity.
Use Cases:
- Use it as a public-facing cryptocurrency wallet address.
- Incorporate it into your digital identity for branding, receiving funds, or signing digital documents.

Important: Domain Renewal
How-To:
- ENS domains require periodic renewal. Use ENS.Vision to track your domain’s status.
- You can check the expiration date of your names easily, open your profile and sort your names by the expiration date.
- Set a personal reminder to renew your domain to avoid expiration.
(😉 And hey, we totally get that keeping track can be a hassle, so we’re working super hard to make renewals a whole lot simpler for you. No more worrying about losing your beloved name — -> soon! 🚀)
🎉 Congratulations, you’re now a proud owner of a web3 domain! Welcome to the family. Should you have any questions or need further assistance, remember, we’re always here to help you out.

Understanding the different states of domains:
- Available: The domain is not currently registered and is open for anyone to register on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Registered: Someone has already purchased the domain, and it is currently in use or reserved by the registrant.
- For Sale: The registered owner of the domain has put it on the market, often at a domain marketplace, indicating they are willing to transfer ownership for a price.
- Grace Period: After a domain expires (post-registration period), it enters a grace period where the original owner can still renew it before it’s released back to the public for registration.
- Premium: After the grace period, the name is released for registration by anyone with a temporary premium which decreases over 21 days. The released name continues to resolve your ETH address until the new owner overwrites it.
Currently, registration costs are set at the following prices:
- 5+ character .eth names: $5 in ETH per year.
- 4 character .eth names: $160 in ETH per year.
- 3 character .eth names $640 in ETH per year.
3 and 4 character names have higher pricing to reflect the small number of these names available.
- Bulk Registration: Register multiple domains simultaneously on ENS.Vision, saving time and effort and gas (=save money).
- Scam Protection: ENS.Vision helps filter out scammy or suspicious domain names, adding an extra layer of security.
- No ETH Required: Unlike traditional ENS platforms where transactions require ETH, ENS.Vision enables users to purchase (not yet registering) domain names using a credit card, this is especially useful for Crypto-Newbies!
- Wide Wallet Compatibility: ENS.Vision supports nearly all wallet connections, offering flexibility and ease of use regardless of your wallet preference. This broad compatibility ensures that you can manage your domains with the wallet of your choice.
- User-Friendly Interface: The platform is designed with user experience in mind, making the process of searching, selecting, and registering domains straightforward and hassle-free.
- 💛 Community Support: ENS.Vision fosters a community-driven approach, offering support and guidance for newcomers to the web3 space. This helps in creating an inclusive environment where users can learn and grow together.
