How to change message size restriction? ›

Click Mailboxes under Recipients. Double click the user that you want to edit and click mailbox features. Scroll down to Message Size Restrictions and click View details. Change the number in KB and then click OK.

On the Global Settings tab, select Transport Settings. In the Transport Settings section of the Actions pane, select Properties. On the General tab in the Transport Settings Properties dialog box, configure the value for Maximum send size (KB). Select OK.

If you can't find the icon, it might be hidden in the overflow area. To view all icons, click the up arrow on the taskbar. Click Set mailbox size limit. Select a mailbox size—1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, or Unlimited.

If you are a free user, you can buy a subscription, to increase your mailbox quota or free up storage space. If you are already a Microsoft 365 subscriber, consumer mailbox limits are capped at 50 GB. To get back under your storage quota, you need to free up storage space.

You have exceeded your mailbox quota for your account. There are several steps you can take to reduce the size of your inbox for better performance: Delete older inbox items. You can do this quickly in the app by setting a custom Swipe motion to delete: Settings > Swipe Options.

From the Settings > Storage page you should see a breakdown of how much space each folder in your mailbox is taking.

In the Outlook Options window, click on Mail in the left-hand menu. Scroll down to the Send messages section and look for Maximum attachment size. The value listed here is the maximum allowable attachment size for your account in megabytes (MB).
