The Card Verification Code, or CVC*, is an extra code printed on your debit or credit card. With most cards (Visa, MasterCard, bank cards, etc.) it is the final three digits of the number printed on the signature strip on the reverse of your card.

When you log into your bank or credit card account, you might get a text message or email with a verification code. You then enter it at the login screen to confirm it's really you. That's a form of two-factor authentication that adds a layer of security to your account — and keeps would-be scammers and hackers out.

A three-digit security number that usually appears on the back of your credit or debit card. Sometimes called a card security code or card verification value, it provides extra protection against unauthorized activity. When asked for your CVN, be sure to enter it properly or your payment might not be successful.

Enables participants to do a real-time card account check with the card issuer, including checking the account is open and valid and verifying the supplied postal code and optionally the billing address and/or Card Verification Code (CVC or CVV).

Look for the 4-digit code printed on the front of your card just above and to the right of your main credit card number. This 4-digit code is your Card Security Code.

The card security codes are 3 or 4 digit codes printed or embossed on Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover cards. These codes are also referred to as CVV2, CVC, CSC or CCID. Their purpose is to provide additional protection against fraudulent card use.
