The credit score that you need for the Capital One Platinum Credit Card is at least 640. The Capital One Platinum Credit Card is also available to people with limited credit history, which means you may be able to get approved even without a credit score.
Other Capital One Platinum Approval Requirements
You should note that while your credit score is an important factor, there are plenty of other things that will impact your chances of being approved for the Capital One Platinum Card, too. Some other key criteria include your income, existing debt load, number of open accounts, recent credit inquiries, employment status and housing status.
If you excel in other areas, you might be able to get approved with a slightly lower credit score in some cases. But it’s best to wait to apply until you meet the Capital One Platinum credit score requirement. You cancheck your credit score for free, right hereon WalletHub.

I am not happy with card at all. Yes. It was the first card that I applied for and was approved with a $300 limit. I have this card over 2 years and have not raised my credit limit once. I have applied for an increase several times in the last two years but "Notta", nothing. I finally called them a couple of weeks ago and was told that the reason I'm denied is because I had a card previously which is true and during when I was laid off my job I had to let it go into collections. So at that time I had a balance of less than $175. It was sold to a junk debt buyer who has added on a huge amount of interest. I offered to pay the balance to Cap One but they cannot accept because they don't own it, they wrote it off therefore the got a tax credit. They will not increase my limit until I pay this junk debt buyer the extoration money they want. They won't budge on the amount (probably because it's very little to begin with). So, if you have an old debt with Cap One and they approve you for a low limit card, I suggest you pay the old debt off before it's sold because evidently they have a relationship with junk debt buyers and will do the collection work for them! I wonder what they receive on return? 😡

Your credit score definitely does not have to be in the 600's.. I promise you that my credit score was 511 when I got approved for a $300 unsecured Capital One Platinum Card. My card will be arriving sometime next week.

My FICO score was 550 at time of approval.
However I had no debt, except student loans. Debt was all paid off 1 month before application, and total debt was under $5,000.

How can I increase my credit score quickly?
The fastest ways to improve your credit score are to pay down your balances, dispute incorrect information on your credit report, make more frequent payments, and reduce credit utilization. Credit utilization (how much of your credit limits you use each month) contributes to a portion of your credit score that accounts for 20% - 30% of your overall score. So, an adjustment there can result in a big credit boost pretty quickly. Similarly, you can dispute...

The topic here covers credit scores, credit card approvals, and the specific requirements for obtaining the Capital One Platinum Credit Card. Here's a breakdown of the key concepts mentioned in the article and comments:
-
Credit Score Requirements:
- The Capital One Platinum Credit Card generally requires a minimum credit score of 640 for approval.
- Some users reported getting approved with scores significantly below 640, such as 511 and 550.
- Others got approved despite having a credit score of 604 and owing money to Capital One.
-
Factors Affecting Approval:
- Besides credit score, several other factors influence approval, including income, existing debt, number of open accounts, recent credit inquiries, employment status, and housing status.
- Having a history of unpaid debt with Capital One might impact your approval or credit limit increase.
-
Credit Score Importance:
- A credit score reflects your credit history and creditworthiness, impacting your ability to get approved for credit cards and loans.
- Improving credit utilization, paying down balances, disputing incorrect information on credit reports, and making timely payments can help increase your credit score.
-
Capital One's Approach:
- Capital One's approval seems to vary, with some users getting approved despite lower credit scores or previous debt owed to the company.
- There's a user's claim that Capital One might not increase your credit limit if you have an old debt with them until that debt is paid off to a debt buyer.
In essence, while the specified credit score requirement for the Capital One Platinum Credit Card is 640, approval can vary based on multiple factors beyond just the credit score. Some users reported getting approved with scores significantly lower than 640, but other financial aspects, including previous debts owed to Capital One, might influence credit limit increases or approvals. Understanding and managing various financial factors can impact one's chances of approval for this particular credit card.
