Is purchasing movies and TV shows no longer available on Google Play? ›

Starting from September 2022, the Google TV app will be your home for buying, renting and watching movies and shows on your Android mobile device or tablet. On the Google Play app, movies and TV will no longer be available. Where will your purchases go?

The company has already done much to move away from Google Play Movies & TV. In 2022, it announced that Google TV would become the default destination for buying, renting and watching titles on Android mobile devices and tablets instead of Movies & TV in the Google Play app.

Each Locker Video Content will be available for unlimited viewing for as long as the rights exist to provide you with that content ("Locker Period"). Each item of Locker Video Content may have a different Locker Period.

Google has decided to discontinue two of its entertainment services -- Google Play Movies and TV application. The company has reportedly begun the process of removing the application from Android and iOS. Additionally, it has also been removed from Roku and smart TVs.

Google is about to fully move on from the Google Play Movies & TV. It had already moved Android and iOS users to the Google TV app, removed the app from every Roku and most smart TVs, and pulled the app from Android TV in October.

The Google Play Store will continue to be accessible for finding, downloading and installing apps on your TV. Only the Play Movies & TV app on Android TV is going away.

Starting October 5th, the Play Movies & TV app will no longer be available on Android TV devices for purchase of new titles or playback of titles in your library.

Make sure you have valid payment method are added on the playstore settings and some device have the in app purchase disable option on the device, if that available just turn on and check again.
