So far, I have referred to the spiritual nature of money several times in this book. You already know about the difference between the spiritual and physical elements of the world. We looked at the difference between physical and spiritual needs and the ways in which the world meets those needs spiritually or physically. We placed money squarely in the spiritual realm because money represents a token of participation in the economy. We learned that money is both God's way of rewarding us for serving his other children and of motivating us to do so. Now I want to delve deeper into what it means for you as a business professional to realize that money is a spiritual matter. Let's look at what is at stake, what you have to gain and lose here. We are going to take all of these earlier concepts and biblical business secrets and meld them into a unified theory of money.
The first thing that I want to establish is that when we speak of money, we are talking about money as a concept—money as wealth. We are not speaking of physical dollar bills and coinage. A characteristic of physical objects is that they can only be in one place at a time. A dollar bill is this way. So are coins. So is this book in your hands. In 2 Corinthians 9:6 the Bible states that "the point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully." The New Living Translation of the Bible records this principle with these words.
Proverbs 21:5 – “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” 2 Thessalonians 3:10 – “For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: 'The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat. '” Psalm 128:2 – “You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.”

Paul, in this verse, asserts to Timothy why the Scriptures being God-inspired is profitable for him and for us too. Profitable means that it is valuable and beneficial for us. It also means that God's Word produces a great harvest in those who believe and trust in it.

Deuteronomy 8:18 – But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. At the end of the day, you're in business to make money – profit is how we keep score.
