Which time is best to visit our village when we talk about the day part? Most tourists normally arrive around 11.00AM and leave our village around 17.00PM. To avoid the crowds you can also try to arrive around 08.00 AM or after 17.00PM and have the village for yourself. Giethoorn village has no closing-time.

If you do have time to visit Giethoorn you're going to need to know what to do while you're there so you can make the most of it. You don't need longer than a few hours. If you have a full day you can have lunch on a canal and stay for a cold beer and watch the boats go by.

Giethoorn is really worth a visit! Because the location is a two-hour drive from Amsterdam, it may not be easy to take public transportation by yourself. The group can easily meet at a location outside Central Station (on the sea side of Central Station, near the ferry terminal).

Is Giethoorn worthwhile? Giethoorn is nice, but it's stuffed full of tourists. Instead, head to Elburg, a wee town that is aiming to be the first grid city in the Netherlands.

Some of Giethoorn's residents would only be able to access their house by canal too (an interesting event that must be), but yes, there are roads, so you can arrive by car and even park for free and then walk alongside the canals to see all the famous and most picturesque spots without renting a boat.

The travel by train takes between 2/2.5 hours for a one-way ticket and costs about €25 per person. It is sometimes possible to buy a one-way ticket for approximately €15 per person in the low season.
