The best business credit cards for a new LLC require a credit score of 700 or higher for approval, and it’s your personal creditworthiness that counts the most. Good options are available to applicants of all credit levels, though. To qualify for a business credit card on behalf of an LLC, an applicant also needs to be an officer or authorized representative of the LLC. However, the length of time the LLC has been in business does not have much of an impact on the LLC’s credit card options.... show more

Methodology for Selecting the Best Business Credit Cards for a New LLC

Best Business Credit Cards for LLCs in 2024 (11) To identify the best business credit cards for a new LLC, WalletHub’s editors regularly compare more than 1,500 credit card offers based on expected costs/savings for representatives of new corporate entities of all types and other WalletHub Rating components. Because new LLCs have differing areas of focus, we try to select a mix of cards. This includes rewards cards for LLC representatives with good credit or better, 0% APR offers, and cards for applicants who are brand new to credit. Still, the cards we select all have a low two-year cost.

How Two-Year Cost Is Calculated

Two-year cost is used to approximate the monetary value of cards for better comparison and is calculated by combining annual and monthly membership fees over two years, adding any one-time fees or other fees (like balance transfer fees), adding any interest costs, and subtracting rewards. Negative amounts indicate savings. When fees or other terms are presented as a range, we use the midpoint for scoring purposes.

Rewards bonuses and credits have been taken into account for two-year cost calculations. However, bonuses applicable to only a very small portion of cardholders are not considered. For example, credits and bonuses awarded for spending or redeeming rewards through a company portal with non-co-branded cards have not been taken into account. Similarly, bonuses and credits related to spending with specific merchants using a non-co-branded card have not been taken into account (for example, if Card A offers credits with DoorDash, this feature would not be factored into calculations because it is hard to assess how many cardholders would use the benefit or exactly how much value they'd get from it).

Cardholder Spending Profiles

Given that different users have different goals and are likely to use their credit cards differently, we identified spending profiles that are representative of different users’ financial priorities and behaviors. For each cardholder type, we have assumed a specific amount of monthly spending by purchase type (e.g., groceries, gas, etc.), as well as an average balance, balance transfer amount, amount spent on large purchases and average monthly payment. Spending assumptions are based on PEX data.

Sources

WalletHub actively maintains a database of 1,500+ credit card offers, from which we select the best business credit cards for LLC for different applicants as well as derive market-wide takeaways and trends. The underlying data is compiled from credit card company websites or provided directly by the credit card issuers. We also leverage data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to develop cardholder profiles, used to estimate cards’ potential savings.

You should get a business credit card for your LLC because it can help you build business credit, earn valuable rewards, and separate your business and personal expenses. Getting a business credit card for your LLC can also help with financing, by getting you a 0% introductory interest rate.

Some Notable Business Cards For an LLC

If your LLC is relatively new, then it might be best to focus on growing and expanding your business before you consider applying for a business credit card. While the prospect of owning a business card might be tempting, please remember that you are personally liable for paying back the debt. If your business fails, it's better not to add credit card debt to the losses.

It's not hard to get a credit card for a new LLC. Issuers will mostly rely only on your personal credit history and personal income when evaluating your small business credit card application, so the length of time the LLC has been in business will have little effect on the LLC's approval odds. There are business credit card options for all credit levels, but the best business credit cards require a personal credit score of 700 or higher...

Many LLCs, including all multi-member LLCs, are required to have an Employer Identification Number (EIN) for tax purposes, and an EIN is needed to establish a business credit report, according to Experian. A non-LLC business can still get an EIN, but already having it can make the process easier for LLCs.
