BankAmericard credit card Review

4.0 / 5

The BankAmericard credit card is a very good 0% credit card that's worthwhile for people with excellent credit who can benefit from interest-free financing for the first 18 billing cycles on new purchases as well as balance transfers made in the first 60 days. The BankAmericard credit card does not charge an annual fee.

The card has a 3% balance transfer fee, however. Plus, its regular APR is quite high by excellent-credit standards. And you won’t earn any rewards.

So the BankAmericard credit card can certainly help you save on interest if you pay off your balance before regular rates take effect. And it’s best used in combination with a good rewards credit card for everyday purchases that you’ll pay for in full by the due date.

BankAmericard Credit Card Review Highlights

0% for 18 Billing Cycles

The average 0% period for new purchases lasts about 11 months, according to WalletHub’s latest Credit Card Landscape Report. And the average 0% period for balance transfers lasts for 13 months. BankAmericard offers 0% intro APRs for 18 billing cycles on both purchases and transfers made in the first 60 days, so it’s ahead of the pack in both regards. After the intro APR offer ends, a 16.24% - 26.24% Variable APR will apply.

3% Balance Transfer Fee

One of the main things diminishing the BankAmericard credit card’s stature as an elite financing option is its 3% transfer fee. The average balance transfer card charges 3.12%. And that’s to say nothing of the few balance transfer credit cards with no balance transfer fee that are available right now.

$0 Annual Fee

This is the norm for a 0% credit card. But it still saves you $22.22 per year compared to the average credit card.

High Regular APR

Sure, the BankAmericard credit card doesn’t have a penalty APR, meaning your rate won’t rise after a missed due date. But if you don’t pay the monthly minimum while the card’s 0% intro rate is in effect, it could be cut short, bringing in the card’s regular APR ahead of schedule. And that regular APR could be almost as high as the average credit card’s penalty APR (27.7%).

Depending on your creditworthiness, the BankAmericard credit card’s regular rate could be high: 16.24% to 26.24% Variable. That means you’re most likely going to overpay on interest if you carry a balance from month to month when the regular APR is in effect, since the average excellent-credit credit card charges 18.2%.

Excellent Credit Required

This bears repeating because most people don’t meet this requirement. You need a 750+ credit score for good approval odds. And you can check your latest credit score for free on WalletHub to see if you’re in the ballpark.

Cancelled after 38 years because of horrible customer service, where you are just a number and not a customer, especially as a 38-year customer. The terrible app sometimes double bills me and sometimes neglects to automatically deduct from my bank, and it locks my card when I am on a trip and cannot access my line of credit. Their reward system is no better than that of any other credit card company. In my line of business, losing a customer of 38 years would break my heart. For BOA, the attitude I received was "take it or leave it." I would recommend another credit card from a different company.

Terrible customer service. I was trying to make a payment and add my outside bank to do so and there continued to be an error message. I have had my account reset multiple times in an attempt to resolve the issue. Two weeks later, and it is STILL unresolved. I asked for compensation for the time and inconvenience after HOURS waiting to speak to a representative, and they refused to do anything. They wouldn't even issue airline miles. After I use my existing miles, I will close all accounts and take my 840 credit score elsewhere. They don't deserve my business, or anyone else's, in my opinion.

If I could give no star, I would. I applied for their credit card specifically to get the rewards for my upcoming cruise. I spent the required amount, but found out afterward that I wouldn't receive my rewards until the next billing cycle, even though I only had one cycle to spend the $1000 once I received my card. Nowhere in their fine print does it state that the rewards wouldn't be available until the next billing cycle. Customer service was absolutely no help at all and was rude. I will be canceling this card as soon as possible and highly recommend that no one use them.

I have been a client for only 6 months. I got the Visa unlimited rewards for a big buy, a new roof for my house, taking advantage of a promo rate of 0% for 18 months, this is my first experience ever with BoA. At the time I signed up for the card everything was fine, until it was not fine. First strike, I anticipated the monthly payments to be equal to pay off the card within the promotional time, so I don’t have to pay interest on the roof purchase. When I called their customer service asking why the pre-set payment wasn’t reflected on the first statement, I was told that any changes on the auto payments takes 3 billing cycles??? I have many other cards and I have never seen something like this, 3 full billing cycles in 2023 to make a change?? Well, second strike, today checked the app to see if I can place the auto payment for the desired amount and it was nowhere to be found. After more than 45 minutes on hold the rep. stays Bank of America has just changed their policy and the only 2 ways to pay are the full balance and or the minimum balance payment with no option to edit your desired monthly amount of payment?? Really? Do we need to log into the account every month to make a separate payment since their system is so insufficient? This bank is going backwards, the obvious reason is to trick you to get hit by the financial and interest charges, the reason why auto payment is so convenient is that you created the payment amount and forget about it. I have a CITI bank Executive card and the experience can’t be more different, Sorry BoA but your intentions are not good, especially under this kind of economy, this kind of tactics are so barbaric and bad intentioned, beware of the changes and games from these kinds of banks. Sorry to say but, very disappointed.

Some months they did not send out either electronic or paper bill. They changed my card number but then credited payments to the old card and told me that I had missed a payment and reported it to credit agencies. When I finally got the error corrected, they still charged me a late fee for their mistake. They were rude throughout the process and insisted the error was my fault. I called them this morning and they put me through multiple rounds of telemarketing before they would let me speak with a representative. Terrible customer service; avoid this card!

The Bank of America credit cards have horrible rule: if you are late with you payment even by 1 day, even for couple of dollars, your card gets declined immediately, with no warnings from the bank. You will find out about it when you try to pay somewhere, which might be very embarrassing. The customer service said that this is a BOA rule for all their credit cards. Avoid!
