Auroras painted the night skies worldwide on Friday during a severe solar storm. Vibrant hues danced across Europe, the United States, and even reached as far as New Zealand. Amid this celestial spectacle, Vincent Ledvina, also known as 'The Aurora Guy,' a popular influencer, shared a video capturing the Aurora in Leh, Ladakh. The footage showed the sky ablaze with hot pink hues. "Last night, during my vacation in India, I witnessed something incredibly rare," he wrote. Ledvina said that due to the brightness near his hotel, he walked a kilometer outside the town, where the Aurora greeted him.
"Can’t believe I got this shot all the way from India! This is such a rare occurrence here, I am so stoked! Who saw the aurora last night? We just had the strongest geomagnetic storm in 20 years," he captioned the video.
He later shared another video with the caption, "Who saw the historic aurora show last night?! I did… from no other place than INDIA! I’m stoked I saw the aurora on my trip here. I planned this vacation years ago, and the Sun decided it would throw the strongest geomagnetic storm in 20 years at me so I could see the aurora from Asia!"
In the comments, many expressed disbelief that such a phenomenon could occur in India.
"I dont know if you hadnt been there, probably no one would have captured it," one person wrote.
Another wrote, "Me thinking that I have to leave my country to see this and you're seeing this while being in my country."
A third person wrote, "You are really so lucky man."
Reports confirmed that the aurora borealis was visible from Ladakh, specifically at 34-36°N, on Friday. The striking auroral red arc made its appearance in Ladakh's Hanle region around 1 a.m. on May 11.
