Respawn just released the launch trailer for Apex Legends Season 15: Eclipse, which is set to go live on November 1. After introducing us to a calm, soft-spoken Catalyst--real name Tressa Smith--in Stories from the Outlands: Last Hope, her combative demeanor in today's Season 15 launch trailer came as a bit of surprise--especially given the fact that it's aimed at another one of Apex's most laid-back characters: Seer (who is so well-loved that players became deeply upset when he was blamed for his homeworld's humanitarian crisis in a televised interview).

At first, it's hard to imagine why these two legends wouldn't see eye-to-eye. Seeing is kind of Seer's thing, after all, and Catalyst uses a plethora of divination methods--from tarot cards to crystals--to "see" the future. Though it may not necessarily be supernatural, Catalyst's talent for foresight appears to be confirmed by the opening words of the trailer, in which she states, "It has been seen. I've seen it more times than I can count." With so much in common, what's got these two normally easy-going legends at each other's throats?

Now Playing: Apex Legends: Eclipse Launch Trailer

The trailer explains this, revealing that Catalyst believes in Seer's "curse" and, like many of the planet's citizens, blames him for the damage done to Boreas and its moon, Cleo, when a catastrophic meteor shower occurred on the night of his birth. This is rather odd, as her episode of Stories From The Outlands made it very clear she was aware of Hammond Robotics' plans to strip the moon of its remaining natural resources. So why is she so upset at Seer? A shot of Catalyst's apartment shows that she's been watching Apex Games coverage, and seems to believe that Seer supports bringing the Games to Cleo for the sake of some good press and is willingly in cahoots with Torres Silva. In the past, while working in what appears to be one of Hammond's facilities, Catalyst witnessed Torres and Seer having a conversation, further convincing her that Seer doesn't truly care about Boreas, Cleo, or the citizens impacted by the humanitarian crisis.

"We've spent years building this place, and you've ruined it," Tressa snarls the first time she encounters Seer in a match.

"I can explain," Seer replies.

But whatever Seer has to say, Catalyst doesn't want to hear it.

"I have no interest in your excuses," she declares, shortly before throwing up an impenetrable wall of ferrofluid that--to the surprise of both Apex players and the legends themselves--negates Seer's incredibly powerful scanning abilities.

Yes, despite devs stating back in July that no "anti-scan" legends were likely to debut any time soon, it seems that, as of Season 15, Revenant is no longer the only legend with the power to negate Seer's X-ray vision abilities. Seeing how Catalyst's abilities interact with Bloodhound's Ultimate ability and Crypto's drone will certainly be interesting.

The trailer also gave players a look at the new Broken Moon map, which will debut alongside Catalyst when Season 15 goes live, though an even closer look at the new map is currently available in-game for players who are up to the challenge. Still, one can't help wondering why exactly Catalyst--who knows Hammond is out to destroy Cleo, the moon she and her friends love so much--would hold a grudge against someone like Seer just for being born. This is especially odd when you factor in the struggles Tressa has faced in her own life, and Seer's stated mission of supporting outcasts and people who are treated poorly for being different. Despite Torres Silva's interference, Seer's OTV interview still made it clear he has nothing but good intentions for his homeworld and its inhabitants (even the ones who hate him). On paper, these two should be best buddies. So why is she so resistant to even having a conversation with the guy?

It's possible Catalyst's distaste for the all-seeing legend isn't entirely related to his cursed reputation or her suspicions regarding Torres Silva. Upon closer inspection, early on in the trailer, Tressa can be seen scrolling through a tablet device while the news plays. Whatever she's reading makes her groan, and when she chucks the tablet on the coffee table, viewers can briefly see the word "TERMINATION" in a large bold font at the top of the screen.

The scene quickly changes, but if you pause it at just the right moment, you can see the full message, which reads:

NOTICE OF TERMINATION

Layoff Notice

We regret to inform you that due to the impending use of Cleo as a future site of the Apex Games, we will no longer be needing your services on our construction team at this time. Please vacate your government-provided residence as soon as possible and return your assigned equipment to your supervisor.

Thank you.

It seems that after gaining ferrofluid-based abilities during the events of Last Hope, Tressa took a job based on the moon itself, working for the CRC (an acronym that likely stands for Cleo Restoration Committee or Cleo Reconstruction Committee). Not only has Seer's arrival reminded Tressa of the destruction Boreas and Tressa's beloved Cleo suffered when Seer was born--it's also resulted in the loss of Tressa's job (which was repairing that damage), her home, and her work tools. With this in mind, it's easy to see why she's not happy to make his acquaintance. Tressa didn't join the Apex Games for fun or glory--she joined the Games because Seer's arrival left her with no other choice. No wonder she's upset.

Based on her appearance in the match, however, it seems she declined to return the ferrofluid-powered work equipment provided to her by her former employers (the trailer also shows a brief flashback of her using said equipment to protect her coworkers during a deadly accident). But players will get a chance for a more detailed look at what that ferrofluid equipment is capable of when the Season 3 gameplay trailer goes live on October 24 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET.

Apex Legends is free to play on console and PC. A mobile version of the game, Apex Legends Mobile, is available for download on Android and iOS devices.

As an enthusiast with a deep understanding of the gaming industry, particularly Apex Legends, I can provide valuable insights into the dynamics between characters, storyline intricacies, and the upcoming Season 15: Eclipse. My knowledge extends beyond mere gameplay mechanics to the lore and narrative woven into the Apex Legends universe.

In the article you've provided, the focus is on the tension between two characters, Catalyst (real name Tressa Smith) and Seer, in the context of the upcoming season. The storyline introduces Catalyst as a character who, despite her calm and soft-spoken demeanor in earlier depictions, exhibits a combative attitude in the Season 15 launch trailer. The conflict revolves around their shared homeworld, Boreas, and specifically the catastrophic events surrounding a meteor shower on the night of Seer's birth.

Catalyst's belief in Seer's "curse" and her blame towards him for the damage done to Boreas and its moon, Cleo, are central to the conflict. Interestingly, Catalyst possesses divination abilities, using methods such as tarot cards and crystals to foresee the future. This unique aspect of her character adds depth to the narrative, and the article hints that her talent for foresight might not necessarily be supernatural but is confirmed by her statement in the trailer: "It has been seen. I've seen it more times than I can count."

The article delves into the mystery of why Catalyst holds a grudge against Seer, despite her prior knowledge of Hammond Robotics' plans to exploit the moon's resources. The trailer suggests that Catalyst, after watching Apex Games coverage, believes that Seer supports bringing the Games to Cleo for positive publicity and is in collusion with Torres Silva. Catalyst's past experiences, witnessing a conversation between Torres and Seer in a Hammond facility, further convince her that Seer doesn't genuinely care about Boreas, Cleo, or the citizens affected by the humanitarian crisis.

One surprising twist in the storyline is Catalyst's ability to counter Seer's powerful scanning abilities. Despite previous statements from developers that no "anti-scan" legends were likely to debut soon, it appears that Catalyst, with her ferrofluid-based abilities, can negate Seer's X-ray vision. This introduces a new dynamic to the gameplay and raises questions about how Catalyst's abilities interact with other legends, such as Bloodhound and Crypto.

The article also touches on the new Broken Moon map, set to debut in Season 15 alongside Catalyst. The map introduces fresh challenges and opportunities for players, adding to the excitement of the upcoming season.

The narrative takes an unexpected turn when the article explores Catalyst's personal struggles. Her apartment scene reveals a layoff notice, indicating that due to the impending use of Cleo as a future site for the Apex Games, she has lost her job repairing the damage caused by the catastrophic events. This revelation adds a layer of complexity to Catalyst's character, explaining her resentment towards Seer, who, in her eyes, is responsible for her job loss, displacement, and the destruction of her homeworld.

In summary, the article provides a comprehensive overview of the characters, conflict, and new features introduced in Apex Legends Season 15: Eclipse. The narrative intricacies, character motivations, and gameplay dynamics contribute to the anticipation and excitement surrounding the upcoming season.
