IKEA: Whether you want affordable furniture to upgrade your current setup, need to get a jumpstart on your 'get organized' resolutions, or just want chic holiday decor, IKEA's Winter Sale is worth checking out. You'll save up to 70% off select seasonal decor, home textiles, kitchenware, and tableware — plus, up to 50% off other categories as well.

Macy's: Stock up on a variety of goods including clothing, shoes, jewelry, handbags, home goods, bed and bath, and even toys (and more!). Discounts range from 20% to 60% off — plus, watch for extra savings via coupon codes on select items.

Nordstrom: Shop cozy picks for the whole family as well as select beauty items, shoes, and home goods for up to 50% off in the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale. Plus save up to 70% off designer clearance products as well.

Target: Save up to 50% off in Target's Clearance Run event, with discounted categories including clothing, shoes, and accessories, as well as beauty and personal care, home items, sports and outdoors goods, and even toys. Plus, if you're looking for affordable holiday goods, now's the time to check out Target's deals on things like wrapping supplies, lights, seasonal candles, and more.

Walmart: This big-box retailer is also hosting a clearance event and taking up to 50% off a wide variety of categories. Shop items at particular price points, including:

Wayfair: Looking to change up your home space in the coming new year? Shop Wayfair's clearance event and save up to 60% on things like furniture and home decor, as well as other categories like bedding, lighting, and more. Plus, you can save up to 40% to 50% off other major categories as well.

Who Has the Best After Christmas Sales?

Amazon, Nike, and Target are a few top stores to check out for post-Christmas savings, though plenty of retailers will be offering After Christmas sales. Just know that these events may not be called as such. Keep an eye out for seasonal sales, clearance events, and end-of-season sales from your favorite retailers if you're on the hunt for a bargain.

Amazon

It should come as no surprise that we expect retailers like Amazon to have a ton of deals even after Christmas. They'll likely go by a name like Year-End Deals, and the promotions could take up to 80% off a wide variety of items. During the After Christmas sales in 2022, we saw discounts on cutlery, cookware, and bakeware. Amazon also cut prices on Kindle books, home goods, and holiday decor, and offered brand-specific discounts like up to 50% off JBL headphones.

Nike

The athletic brand is an excellent stop for After Christmas sales, especially if you're hoping to purchase Nike activewear to pursue fitness goals in the new year. Last year, popular post-Christmas offers included the following:

• Up to 45% off Nike Air Max shoes
• An extra 20% off during the Nike End of Season Sale
• Up to 59% off plus an extra 20% off Nike men's coats and jackets

Target

Target is a winning store to shop any time of year, but especially after holidays. And that holds true with their sales after Christmas, as the store will likely shift its seasonal items to a clearance section and knock up to 50% off right after the holiday. Expect discounted products at Target to include clothing, shoes, home goods, and even toys and electronics. Savings may get better as time goes on, but note that the selection will likely dwindle quickly. If you wait too long to buy, you may miss out altogether.

When Do After Christmas Sales Start?

We've seen After Christmas sales start well before Christmas itself. In fact, in 2018 the first After Christmas sales we saw popped up on December 21. But during the last few years, we've seen retailers shift the starting date. Since 2019, we've seen sales begin on Christmas Day or the day after, living up to the name.

This year we expect After Christmas sales to start on Tuesday, December 26. That said, it's a good idea to keep an eye out before then, in case a store decides to roll out the savings early.

What to Buy During After Christmas Sales in 2023

Holiday Decor

When people think of the best sales after Christmas, holiday decorations may be the first thing that comes to mind, followed in a close second by seasonal candy. And with good reason, honestly. The day after a holiday is the best time to pick up items related to said event because of the massive discounts.

Expect Home Depot to knock up to 75% off Christmas decorations after the holiday this year.

Watch for Home Depot to knock up to 75% off Christmas trees and holiday decor following Christmas this year, while Belk could take up to 80% off during their sale. Additionally, count on retailers like Wayfair to offer up to 60% off their selection of holiday decor, as well.

Clothing

From December 25, 2022, to January 1, 2023, about 24% of the deals we saw were for clothing and accessories. One of the most popular offers among our readers during that time was a sale at REI that cut up to 75% off previous-season Patagonia, The North Face, and prAna items.

That period was also a great time to shop off-price stores like Nordstrom Rack, which cut up to 70% off shoes for the whole family. Factory stores also boasted big discounts. J.Crew Factory knocked 60% off clearance items, and Banana Republic Factory took up to 70% off in its Winter Sale.

In general, watch for starting prices to be incredibly low during the week after Christmas. Last year we saw pajama pants for just $7, button-up shirts for $8, and pullovers for $9.

Video Games (Maybe)

If you're lucky enough to receive a shiny new video game console this season, then the sales after Christmas may be a prime opportunity to pick up new titles to play. Last year, we saw select games drop to as little as $10, but there will likely be a handful of sales to peruse that may yield even better deals. Watch for the following to return again this year:

• Up to 50% off games at GameStop
• "Buy two, get a third free" pre-owned games at GameStop
• Select titles for free via Prime Gaming or the Epic Games Store
• Select titles for $10 at the PlayStation Store

While it'll probably start a little before Christmas, the Steam Winter Sale will be another good opportunity to shop for games. The sale is expected to start on December 21, and discounts should be significant.
