When planning our last trip to Tulum we were looking for a cabaña or room directly at the beach in Tulum with ocean views but didn’t want to break the bank and spend hundreds of dollars.

After a long, long search to find the perfect, but still affordable hotel in Tulum we found Azucar Hotel Tulum.

Casita Lunamiel Beachfront Cabaña

Azucar Hotel Tulum is a small hotel with only a few rooms. Most of them are right at the beach.

We stayed at Casita Lunamiel (the honeymoon casita!!!), which is a standalone casita with a balcony, hammocks, and even a little fridge. Another plus point is the swing right in front of the cabaña at the beach.

Check out room options at Azucar Hotel Tulum here.

Shambala Petit Boutique Hotel With Infinity Pool

Affordable Beach Hotels In Tulum - Where To Stay In Tulum On A Budget (5)

Shambala Petit Boutique Hotel is our latest favorite hotel by the beach in Tulum. It has an amazing infinity pool directly at the beach with a palm tree in the middle and a yoga shala for yoga classes and retreats.

The boutique hotel has different rooms from small casitas directly at the beach to bigger lofts with incredible ocean views.

Shambala Petit Tulum offers daily free breakfast and is quite affordable compared to other beach hotels in Tulum, especially when considering their unique infinity pool by the beach which is special.

Nueva Vida de Ramiro is a super nice and affordable beach hotel that is not on many people’s radar. It is one of the most affordable beach hotels in Tulum that is super nice at the same time and has all the amenities.

We loved the Mexican-style cabañas, which come with a balcony. The beach lounges are amazing and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive.

We have learned, that Nueva Vida de Ramiro now has a pool directly at the beach.

Papaya Playa Project Design Hotel & Beach Club

Affordable Beach Hotels In Tulum - Where To Stay In Tulum On A Budget (9)

Papaya Playa Project has a special place in my heart. Way back when I studied in Mexico in 2008, Papaya Playa, back then a hostel, was the first place I stayed in Tulum.

It was very different then from what Tulum is today. Papaya Playa used to be a very basic hostel which now has evolved into one of the most popular design hotels in Tulum.

Over the years rates have increased a lot at Papaya Playa Hotel. However, sometimes you can find good deals on Booking.com, especially closer towards the off-season when the demand is lower.

You can find fairly affordable garden cabañas at the PPP. They don’t come with an ocean view but are a lot cheaper, therefore, and you still get to enjoy the entire property.

Of course, there are also luxurious casitas and entire houses for a group of people at Papaya Playa in Tulum. One time we had the opportunity to stay at a beachfront casita and it was amazing.

Check out room options at Papaya Playa Project here.
