Course description

Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign is a comprehensive and hands-on course which will introduce you to digital design in the shape of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. You will also discover how seamlessly the 3 programmes can work together.

You'll gain an appreciation of bitmap and vector graphics too, and learn when it's best to use the different image file formats. We will also give you some tips on using basic keyboard shortcuts to improve workflow.

You will explore a variety of processes including design and layout, workspaces, tools and palettes, importing files and saving files for onscreen and print output.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the course,you'll understand the basics of using each software package, how eachworks and when to use each one. You will know how to work withthem together, and how to assemble a print and digital ready outcome usingelements created in Photoshop and illustrator using InDesign.

Please be advised that this is an intensive course and you will need to be confident using a computer and working with new software interfaces.

On campus short course materials:

  • Paper and Pen
  • Students will need to create an account with Adobe (unless you already have one) in order to access the Adobe suite at the college; instructions are included below. You will need to use a personal email address to create this. If you already have an account with Adobe, please make sure you bring your login details with you on the first day of the course.
    • Creating an Adobe account is free.
    • The software will only be accessible when logged into a UAL networked computer
    • The same account can be used outside of the University, but software will only be accessible through a personal paid subscription that students will need to set up independently
    • You can still create an account on the day but doing this beforehand will save time and avoid delays to the start of the class.
    • If you already have an Adobe ID/ subscription you can use this on your short course rather than setting up a new account.
    • To create a new account go to Adobe Sign in page, select 'Create an account, enter your details and select ‘Create account’

To take part in the Online sessions you will need:

  • An up-to-date web browser (we recommend Chrome)
  • Adobe Creative Cloud. If you do not already have Adobe Creative Cloud, please sign up for a free 7 day trial of Adobe Creative Cloud. For courses longer than 7 days a monthly subscription of £16.24/month is available.
  • Microphone and headphones (a headset with a microphone function is recommended. The built-in microphone in your device would also be fine).
  • Webcam
