When you use Acrobat or Acrobat Reader to open PDF documents that were signed or certified using certificates, you see the message "A new security settings update is available from Adobe Systems. Would you like to install it now?"
The dialog refers to updates to the root certificate list (AATL) in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
To install the security settings and update the root certificates list, click Yes.
To manually update the root certificates list at a later time, click No.
Adobe Approved Trust List (AATL)
Adobe Approved Trust List (AATL) is a program that allows millions of users around the world to create digital signatures. The signatures are trusted whenever the signed document is opened in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader. The list of trusted certificates is updated from time to time in case some certificates have been added, renewed, or have expired.To know more, seeAdobe Approved Trust List (AATL).
These updates are distinguished from the standard product updates for Acrobat or Acrobat Reader, which can be triggered by choosing Help > Check For Updates.
Manually Update the Adobe Approved Trust List (AATL) in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader
In Acrobat or Acrobat Reader, go to Edit > Preferences (Windows), or Acrobat > Preferences (macOS).
From the categories on the left, chooseTrust Manager.
To manually update the trust settings, click Update Nowin the Automatic Adobe Approved Trust List (AATL) updates section.

To automatically check and download the trust settings from an Adobe server, select the optionLoad Trusted Certificates From An Adobe AATL Server.This setting ensures that the user or organization associated with the certificate has met the assurance levels of theAdobe Approved Trust Listprogram. The certificate updates are triggered under the following conditions:
When you open a PDF that has a digital signature.
You have never checked for updates before.
You have checked for updates before but 28 days have elapsed, or a new update is available.
In the Trusted Certificates Updatedialog box, click OK.
Click OK in the security settings updated confirmation dialog.
The Adobe Approved Trust List (AATL) is now updated.
Manage the Adobe Approved Trust List update in an enterprise environment
In Acrobat or Acrobat Reader, go to Edit > Preferences (Windows), or Acrobat > Preferences (macOS). From the categories on the left, choose Trust Manager. To manually update the trust settings, click Update Now in the Automatic Adobe Approved Trust List (AATL) updates section.
Adding the "bUpdater" registry entry and setting it to 0 not only disables automatic updates, it also removes the "Check for Updates" option from the Help menu of Acrobat Reader DC.
Open the Preferences dialog box (hamburger Menu (Windows) or the Acrobat menu (macOS) > Preferences).From the Categories on the left, select Trust Manager.
The new experience is an exciting step forward for Acrobat's future. But if it doesn't suit your needs, you can still revert to the previous experience. Windows: Select the hamburger menu, and then choose Disable new Acrobat. macOS: Go to View > Disable new Acrobat.
Choose Signatures > Identities & Trusted Certificates > More > Trusted Certificates.Choose Import.Browse to the certificate you want to trust. This is usually located at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\<track name>\Security.
Press the F9 key for the Menu bar and F8 key for Tools bar to unhide/hide the toolbar items. You can also change the settings from the Adobe Reader' Preferences Edit>Preferences>Full screen>select 'Show Navigation bar'>Click OK.
To uninstall Adobe Updater, open the Creative Cloud desktop app and disable auto-updates. Select Creative Cloud > Preferences from the main menu. When the Preferences window opens, select Apps. In the Apps dialogue window, you will be able to uninstall Adobe Updater by switching off the Auto-update button.
You may be prompted to sign in again after a failed attempt when using Adobe software. This issue normally occurs when you are not signed into your Adobe account and might be due to a lack of rights on your computer, a firewall, or access restriction.
Acrobat Reader is set up for automatic updates by default. It does not provide any UI option in the preferences to control this setting. IT Administrators can control the update settings using the Adobe Customization Wizard or the Windows Registry.
