How did a fake AdBlock install on my computer?

We downloaded an installer containing this fake AdBlock extension from a deceptive webpage. In addition to various misleading and scam sites, adware can have "official" promotional pages.

Most visitors access such sites via redirects caused by websites utilizing rogue advertising networks, mistyped URLs, spam browser notifications, intrusive ads, or installed adware (with browser force-opening abilities).

Remove malicious extensions from Google Chrome:

Optional method:
