How do you declare your major at Pitt? ›

Ideally, you should declare your major during an appointment with your Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences advisor. If this is not possible, you can declare your major at the front desk in the Arts and Sciences Advising Office (252 Thackeray).

With an undeclared major in your first year, you will usually have to enroll in general education classes in different disciplines. In addition to learning about a variety of topics, you will gain prerequisites and credits in these courses that can count toward your major after you have selected one.”

Students can declare a double or triple major, but will usually earn only one degree. If one major leads to the BA degree and another to the BS degree, students must decide when applying for graduation which degree they wish to receive. A maximum of 6 credits can overlap from one major to another.

In addition to PPE requirements, Pitt has a laboratory dress code which includes the following recommendations: Wear long hair tied back. Wear long pants that cover to the ankle. Wear clothing made of natural fibers because they are fire resistant.

Students must present their valid Pittsburgh campus ID when the arrive at the Science Center to gain free admission.

While the acceptance rate is higher than those schools for the time-being, this is likely to change in the future as it becomes a more highly coveted university in the future. Additionally, Pitt has incredible opportunities in research (one of the nation's top research universities), social life, and involvement.

Though there are some exceptions, many colleges do not require you to declare your major until your sophom*ore year. When you select your “intended major,” it is just that—intended. Different schools have different policies for changing majors.

When you apply to Pitt, you'll apply to the academic school that houses your intended field of study. We review applications based on the entry-school you are applying to, not on the major of interest.

When a student declares a major he/she is indicating which major he/she would like to pursue. In the College of Business students can declare Accounting, Finance, International Business, Management or Marketing. When a student is admitted into their major, that means he/she has met the admission requirements.

You can take a year to wait to declare a major, but waiting until your sophom*ore and junior year can be dangerous. You must complete prerequisites to earn a degree, and failing to choose a major could delay your graduation date. Failing to declare a major can also affect your financial aide and enrollment status.
