5 Fun Ways to Take a Break from Wedding Planning (2024)

5 Fun Ways to Take a Break from Wedding Planning (1)

A lot goes into planning a wedding, regardless of whether it’s a grand fete overseas or a small backyard affair. There’s so much to consider: color schemes, guest lists, food, venue… the list goes on and on. If you find yourself losing your cool, bawling your eyes out, or suddenly want to just call the whole thing off, then it’s time to escape the pandemonium of wedding planning and take a much needed break to rejuvenate. Here are five fun ways to step away from all the stressful details to re-center so that you can return to your party planning duties with a fresh mind and spirit.

  1. Escape to the spa – A little pampering never hurt anybody. Release some tension with a nice, tranquil spa day and let someone else do all the work, for a change. Afterwards, you’ll feel refreshed, relaxed, and rejuvenated so that you can get back on that party planning “horse.” If finances have you in a pickle and a spa day is just out of the question, then resort to lighting some fragrant candles and meditating for 30 minutes to and hour every day. You’ll be pleasantly surprised as to how effective a few minutes of quiet time can be for a stressed out bride.
  1. Count your blessings – Taking a step back to remember who and what you’re grateful for (namely, your family, friends, and the love of your life) is a great way to alleviate some pent-up stress and free up some much-needed space in your overwhelmed mind. Put a pen to some paper and jot down several of the people and things you’re blessed to have in life, or simply journal about your stresses to get them out of your head, because it’s much wiser to take out your frustrations on a piece of paper, rather than your maid of honor.
  1. Read a book – There’s nothing more satisfying than escaping reality with a good book or two. If wedding planning is starting to get the best of you, try turning off your brain to the world and, instead, tune in to the lives of your favorite fictional characters. As W. Somerset Maugham said, “The only important thing in a book is the meaning that it has for you,” so pick up a good book and indulge. You deserve it!
  1. Talk it out — Sometimes all you need is someone to talk to who will listen to your troubles and offer some kind words to get you through this tough time. However, choose your listening ear wisely. If you’ve burned a few bridges due to your (let’s be honest, here) bridezilla ways, then it’s probably best to steer clear of people whom you may have (let’s be honest here, again) yelled at out of frustration. The reality is, you probably just need someone to reassure you that the pressure is getting to you and you’re rightfully entitled to a break from the stress. So, listen to your friend’s words of wisdom and take a friggin’ break, girl!
  1. If all else fails, have a good laugh – Laughter cures all, so get some giggles in you. If you want a good laugh, take a look at this list of 17 of the worst guests at every wedding. Oh, and brace yourself, because you’ll need that humor when one of those guests show up to your wedding – let’s just hope it’s not this lady, who is, literally, bringing down the house. Oy vey!

Your wedding should be a blissful event, so don’t throw caution to the wind and turn it into a living hell by stressing over every single detail. Allow yourself breaks every now and again, especially when things start becoming overwhelming. You’ll see that when you take a step back to regroup, coming back to planning your big day is just as exciting as the day your engagement. Remember, this is your day – make it a good one.
