Programming is one of the safest career paths of the future. But there are always pros and cons to everything. Programmers often face a lot of obstacles and challenges in their career.
Here are the 5 biggest career challenges programmers face today:
1. The need for constant production
Programming can be a competitive space. This means that there is a constant need for programmers to make high-quality products for their company. If you’re not able to produce quality products then you’ll always have a fear of being replaced by someone else, who will be able to do your job better than you. It is not a great feeling to deal with, but it’s the truth that must be acknowledged. So, you should keep working on your programming skills so that you become indispensable.
2. Deciding which programming language to learn
This can be a very difficult choice to make. Because no one really can tell you what skill or language might suit your interests and the customer’s interest. But you still can do research about the pros and cons of different programming languages and then decide what skill or programming language you should learn.
3. Keeping up with business policies and rules
You’re lucky enough if you’re working in an IT company because they have business policies and rules specifically cater to programming professionals. But the programmers working for government, multinationals or other ordinary institutions, they don’t understand how the programmers like to work. It can force you to deal with irrelevant meetings, office politics and other obstacles that might distract you from programming.
4. Completing and scheduling projects
Completing projects can be a real challenge sometimes because programming is something that never gets over. Bugs will need to be get fixed and iterations will likely need to be made. Also, scheduling projects can be difficult too, because the timeframe to programming is vague. At the end moment, there always will be some uncertainty. But, you will eventually learn how to schedule projects and will be able to deliver software that the customers want.
5. Acquiring leadership roles and responsibility
Acquiring leadership role in your company can be one of the most difficult and challenging tasks that a programmer can face. Because now you’re not just responsible for your own work but you are also responsible for other people. You’ll be responsible to meet deadlines of the projects and your team members will look to you for guidance.
