1972 S SILVER Eisenhower Dollar Value

According to the NGC Price Guide, as of September 2024, a Eisenhower Dollar from 1972 S in circulated condition is worth between $9.50 and $10.75. However, on the open market 1972 S SILVER Silver Dollars in pristine, uncirculated condition sell for as much as $3000.

As is the case with most modern coins, the 1972 Eisenhower dollar is at its most valuable when it has great eye appeal, is in a high state of preservation, and has been authenticated and graded by one of the three major grading services.

The Philadelphia Mint produced three varieties of 1972 Ikes – because of Eisenhower's nickname –, using the cupro-nickel alloy. These coins can be easily identified because they have no mintmark. The 1972 Eisenhower silver dollar may hold the most value of all the coin's years. During its eight-year production run, the United States Mint modified the dies several times by changing the relief and strengthening some design elements.

However, you might encounter Morgan Silver Dollars that seem to lack a mint mark altogether. This isn't an error or a flaw; these coins were minted in Philadelphia. During the era when Morgan Silver Dollars were produced, the Philadelphia Mint didn't use a mint mark.

Even though they were special order coins, some 40% Eisenhower silver dollars still made their way into circulation. Besides checking for an “S” mintmark on the obverse or front of the coin, collectors can check the edge of the coin for a copper stripe.
